Summer recreation program eyed for Tripoli

Maynard Reynolds, Frederika coach, outlines a two part summer program at the Tripoli Commercial club meeting. The plan includes sports and crafts with parental craft material costs, a Red Cross swimming program, and supervision by a committee from Community Chest Red Cross Commercial club and town council. A harvest festival and centennial planning are also discussed.

Sumner Couple Wed In Sunday Ceremony

Shirley Ann Moeller and Eugene J. Huck were united in marriage Sunday at St. John American Lutheran church in Sumner. The bride, a 1953 Sumner High School graduate and Kroblin Transfer bookkeeper, wore a nylon tulle gown with Chantilly lace and a cathedral train. The groom, a 1952 Sumner High School graduate farming with his father west of Sumner, served as his bride’s escort beside a bridal party of relatives. The ceremony featured organist Mrs. Albert Dienst and vocalist Mrs. Paul Affeldt singing several hymns. Out-of-town guests were from Storm Lake and West Union.

Tripoli Panthers Split Two Baseball Games

Tri oli High School baseballers split two games last week, beating Plainfield 16 1 then losing to Denver 8 4. Nicklaus allowed five hits while Ohrmann and Knelling led a nine hit attack. Dohrlan homered for Tripoli, but four errors and early Denver scoring doomed the second game. The Panthers travel Readlyn Thursday and Frederika next Monday.

Sportsmen's Club Announces Kids' Night and Largest Fish Contest

The Wapsie Sportsmen's Club in Bremer county promotes Kids' Night for next Tuesday April 26 at Towne Service station, while outlining the Largest Fish Contest running March 1 to December 1. Prizes in seven species classes will be awarded at the club dinner in January.

Condition Of Boy Struck Near Denver Improves

Roger Eick eight, seriously injured last Friday when struck by a car driven by Mrs. Rick Christoffer near Denver, is improving while hospitalized at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Eick of Denver, who said he was walking home from school when he crossed the highway.

Wedding Banquet for Bride and Groom Held in Parish Hall

A reception for 375 followed the ceremony with Vera Frisch in charge of guest book and Lois Bergmann Leanne Schultz at gifts. Betty Haupt Velda Ferguson poured. Last Rites Wednesday for George Johnson 67 Lifelong Resident

Funeral services were held at Rettig Funeral Home for George Johnson 67 lifelong Tripoli resident who died of a heart attack Monday at Christie Convalescent Home Cedar Falls. He was a meat cutter in Tripoli and Oelwein and is survived by two nephews Gale Johnson Auburn Washington and Dane Johnson Pocatello Idaho plus two Dunerton cousins. Burial in Fremont Cemetery with six casket bearers.

Readlyn Hosts 492 Students for State Music Test

Readlyn High School hosted 492 students from 26 schools for the final soloists and small groups contest for class D schools of northeast Iowa. Readlyn contestants earned 14 Division I ratings including various solo, quartet, and sextet entries. Denver and Plainfield participants also received Division I ratings across multiple vocal and instrumental categories.

Farm Fire Destroys Barn and Crops Near Readlyn

A Friday blaze on the Alvin Matthias farm six miles south of Readlyn destroyed a large barn corn cribs and a hog shed with hay and grain all lost. The house garage and machine shed were saved. A saddle horse and several cattle were kept safe by neighbors. Insurance covers the loss. exact amount not announced.

Laraine Rettig Weds Duane Meyer In Readlyn Ceremony

Laraine Rettig daughter of Mr and Mrs Paul W Rettig wed Duane Meyer son of Mr and Mrs Herman Hesse in a Sunday ceremony at St Peter s Evangelical and Reformed church Readlyn. The bride wore Chantilly lace and nylon with a Chantilly lace veil and carried red roses on a white Bible. Guests numbered 350 at a Town Hall reception. The couple will reside in Readlyn after April 22 following a trip to the Ozarks.

Big crowd fills Tripoli for Dividend Days drawing

More than 2000 shoppers packed Tripoli streets for the Tripoli Commercial club Dividend Days finale. Leon Kleiss won $100, Walter Beisner $50, ten $5 prizes went to local residents, with proceeds backing special shopping bargains and local merchants.
