Plainfield Mutual Telephone stockholders met April 16 with 102 in person and 72 proxies representing 192 shares. The 3-1 ballot approved converting the Ripoli and Tripoli exchanges to be dialed by an independent company, pending finance committee review and further expenditure.
Conservation officials study mirror type deer warning devices along highways in western Iowa to cut vehicle collisions. Aimed at twilight and night, devices use 45 degree mirrors placed 43 feet apart to reflect headlights and startle deer, potentially preventing crashes. The two year trial will cover crossing areas near the West Nish river and Council Bluffs with signs to aid drivers.
Ernest Moeller was transferred to Iowa City from Sumner Hospital to the Veterans hospital as ordered by officials. The move reflects movement of patient care between facilities for specialized treatment.

Funeral services were held Monday at Faith United Church of Christ for Clarence J. Kimball 61 who died Wednesday at Allen Memorial Hospital Waterloo after a month as patient. Burial followed in the church cemetery with Rettig Funeral Home in charge. He was born May 25 1901 in Bremer County and lived in Tripoli. He married Alma Mundtrom January 1 1939 and served as choir director, Tripoli Commercial Club member, and last 17 years as manager of the local liquor store. He is survived by his widow, one sister and one brother.
Mayor George W. Barnes reminds residents that dogs running at large will be seized and impounded, with return possible within two days after proper identification and costs. He also warns against burning garbage on wash days, leaves burning on streets, and urges bicycle riders to obey stop signs, plus enforcing two hour parking zones and barring driving on restricted streets near the elementary school while barricades stand. Citizens are urged to cooperate with law enforcement to improve safety.
The World War I Veterans and Auxiliary plan a meeting on April 18 at 8 p m at Tripoli Town Hall. The gathering will discuss postwar activities and veteran support. Local organizers invite all members to attend.

Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts of the Wapsie area council will visit homes to sell 50 cent tickets for the 1963 Wapsie Scout-o-Rama at the Waterloo Hippo drome on May 4 from 2:00 to 8:30 pm. The event features 100 booths, a camping fair, and a new Scout Pentathlon to showcase physical fitness. Proceeds fund equipment for Camp Ingawanis near Waverly.
Governor Harold Hughes vetoed a bill requiring compensation to property owners for denied driveway access on interstate and relocated primary highways. A prior veto by Gov. Norman Erbe is noted. The measure faced a $15 million anticipated cost to the primary road fund. A compromise bill was later drafted to null the highway commission access resolutions in county courthouses.
The Tripoli Women's City Bowling Association held its annual election for the 1963 1964 season with 85 votes cast. Officers elected were Donna Sassman president Gladys Rettig vice president Clara Towne secretary treasurer and Doris Nerge sergeant at arms.
Mr and Mrs Maurice Aubrey traveled to Iowa City on Saturday as Lester Boeckmann underwent additional surgery at the Veterans hospital.
Tripoli Commercial Club directors held a special session after the regular Monday meeting in Town Hall to fill unexpired terms. Dr. L. J. Magnall was appointed to the director vacancy left by Dr. C. R. Barry and Lorenz Bunger was named flower show director succeeding the late Clarence J. Kimbal.
Pvt Michael Wilson returns from a 10 day leave spent with his parents Mr and Mrs Lynn Wilson at the Indian Town Military Reserve in Annville Pennsylvania. He was escorted to duty by his family and remains assigned to his unit in the reserve.
National Library Week runs April 21 to 27. The article lauds the U S readers freedom to read and highlights the public library's strong collection. Through the Eastern Iowa Cooperative the library offers about 2,500 books and access to a wide range of subjects.
Confirmation services were conducted at St. John's Evangelical and Reformed Church in Siegel with the Rev. W. D. Weidler officiating. Confirmands included Wanda Dettmer, Sharon Biermann, Allen Heinemann, Constance Kingery, and Shizuko Dettmer.
Tripoli Bowling Association schedules its fourth annual recognition banquet for Thursday evening May 23 at the Riviera Ballroom in Janesville. Eligible guests include league bowlers, team sponsors and their spouses. Tickets are $1.75 per plate and reservations are from Tripoli Bowl-In, Farmers Store, or Marwin Blasberg. The program includes trophies and prizes for season winners.
Fremont special report notes neighbors Clara Rathe Lizzie Rathe and Orville Wolfgram received labor and machinery on Thursday to seed oats. Present were Fred Rathe Louie Rathe Larry Rathe Carl Mohling Erwin Blasberg Paul Shonka Wilbur Peters Gene Woodcock and Elmer Tonne assisting with the work.
The Tripoli Woman's Club will meet April 24 at 7 30 p m in the Town Hall. Melva Smith will present the program Knowing Our Iowa Legislators. The 1963 graduates will be guests with hostesses Bertha Weidler Merinda Lauck Anita Cox Mona Campbell Marion Tucker and Ruth Woodcock listed.
A large crowd attended the annual drawing for 25 canned Easter hams and the Easter egg hunt for children under 12. Ideal weather boosted turnout with about 425 children participating and around 130 prizes awarded in the egg hunt.
Merlin Dettmering was notified of a full year scholarship from the National Science Foundation to participate in the 1963 1964 academic year institute at the State College of Iowa Cedar Falls. He has taught science at Frost School Frost Minnesota for three years and will resign at year end to study with the grant funding. He is the son of Mr and Mrs H A Dettmering of Tripoli.
Mr and Mrs Dan Jahnke and family moved from Waverly to Iowa City. Mrs V G Goebel accompanied them Thursday and stayed until Sunday at their home. Dr Goebel and Cindy spent Sunday there and Mrs Goebel returned home with them.
License examiners will be at Tripoli Town Hall on Saturday April 20 from 8:00 a m to noon. Residents may renew or obtain new licenses. tests run 8:00 to 11:00 a m. Starting this month the office opens at 8:00 a m. Examiners will not return until May 18.
The American Legion Auxiliary 18 sponsors a teen hop at Tripoli Town Hall Saturday evening from 8 to 11. The event is for ages 13 to 19, with admission 50 cents per person.
The library announces two new teen fiction titles including Glory Road and Moon flower Vine along with Mr. Lincoln's Army and other works. A poetry collection by James Hearst is now available, plus a vacation spots pamphlet service covering states Canada Switzerland Nova Scotia and Hawaii. Expect many visitors next week. please visit.
Tripoli Panthers baseball team lost 2-1 to Turkey Valley Tuesday afternoon at Turkey Valley. The Panthers had two hits while the opponents tallied five. The Denver Grey Ladies met at the home of Mrs. James Wells on April 8 with seven members. They crafted 72 Easter tray favors for the Bremer county home and plan to chaperone Denver children in Red Cross swimming classes at Waverly pool this summer with Mrs. George Borchers as next hostess.

Tripoli Panthers hosted a triangular meet Wednesday with THS finishing second at 53 points, Janesville 69, Plainfield 49. Allan Schwemm led Tripoli with three wins and top marks in low hurdles 15.2, 220 yard dash 25.8, broad jump 17 feet 7 inches. relay team won 440. Other Tripoli scorers included Darrel Hinrichs and Roy Drewis in jumping and throwing events, plus Waterman Drape and Brooks in sprints. Coach Hahn noted only 15 boys on the squad amid conference play. remaining schedule lists Dickinson relays, Bulldog relays, Comet relays, Wartburg, and Sumner meets.
