Soaring Thunderbirds trace origin of their club on campus
The Flying Thunderbirds Inc. trace origins to 1939 when a campus soaring club formed. Veterans from the Korean War era revived activity in the 1950s, leading to incorporation in Indiana in 1953. The club expanded through aircraft acquisitions, held a 1962 upgrade to a Cessna 150, and promoted training including an introductory flight for $3.50.
