Nominations are open for Vice-President and Treasurer with primaries set for March 9 1965 and petitions due by March 5. Eligibility requires Junior or Senior status, prior council service, 2.25 GPA, major campus office, and petition signatures. Voters must be Tri-State students with ID to cast ballots.
Dr Raymond J Seeger senior staff associate for research at the National Science Foundation and adjunct professor of mathematical physics at American University will speak at Tri State College. The seminar chaired by Dr William West will be held 3 30 PM Tuesday February 16 in the Perry T Ford Memorial Library. Seeger’s topic is the role of the NSF in education and research. He has co authored Our Physical Heritage and Research Frontiers in Fluid Dynamics. He is a former VP of AAAS and the Washington Academy of Sciences and a member of APS AIP and History of Science Society. He holds a BA from Rutgers and a PhD from Yale.
Tristate students crowded the Perry Ford Memorial Library like opening night on a cold Friday as the first half of the winter quarter ended. The usual semi empty space was packed with study activity and whispers of finals.
Dr Willig announces the science building known as the 300 building has been condemned after a thorough safety inspection by the State Fire Marshall. It fails to meet minimum safety standards for public buildings. This pushes acceleration of the future science building as students may continue to use the 300 building for another year or more before removal of the hazard.
Tri State College announces a new four year civil engineering program replacing most five hour classes with three to four hour courses. Pr G P Hauck, chair, says the old 180 hour plan will allow more technical electives and specialization. New hydraulics and design projects begin, with senior group design projects due quarter end including reports drawings and a model. Grades depend on individual participation and progress reports.
Kappa Sigma Hoppa and Lion Sen won first place in the 1965 Snow Sculpture competition held February 6 at Tri-State College. Awards were presented February 8 by President Robert DePree during a Student Council meeting. The rapid thaw damaged many works, with most sculptures barely visible by Sunday noon.
WANE TV Fort Wayne announces Talent 65 a program to showcase young talent in the viewing area Auditions for Tri State College entries are set for Tuesday evening February 23 at the WANE TV studios 215 State Boulevard Fort Wayne The first two programs will feature acts judged by a four member panel with three finalists selected from each program The finalists compete on the third program and a winner earns 250 dollars toward educational expenses The telecasts will be taped in March April and May and aired in primetime June July and August For more information contact Mr Leeman at WANE TV Fort Wayne
