Official Broadwater County publication notes Townsend Post Office classified as second class trade paper. Editor and proprietor stated as responsible party for the paper and its operations.
A partial report suggested rapid action on the town water issue. The council weighed debt to build a gravity system or grant a franchise to outside capital. A Deep Creek water right was noted, with needs for elevation and fire pressure, and a careful survey to estimate costs before deciding on indebtedness or an alternative well system.
Broadwater's first assessment list shows $200000 more property than last year under old county valuations. Assessor Whaley used state board values and plans to add N P Railway road-bed and rolling stock plus a supplemental list. Total taxable wealth near $2 million, seen as a solid basis for the new county's business.
The text suggests corrections will be made to the list and it is reasonable to expect an increase rather than a decrease. It notes ongoing adjustments may affect counts and accuracy going forward.

Smith of Helena Montana filed for a patent under the mining laws for the Alliance Lode Mining Claim Survey No 5089 in Beaver Creek district Broadwater County Montana. The claim covers about 19.65 acres with a posted notice from April 23 1897 and joins adjacent claims Stray Horse Lode and Little Katie Lode. First publication date May 13 1897. W E Cox Register.
