Miss Rose arrives in Topeka after leaving Sacramento this afternoon. A brilliant reception in California's capital features a mammoth bouquet presented by the State of California as bands play My Honolulu Lady in public places signaling her arrival.
Special correspondent reports Miss Anne Trose Topeka Carnival Queen was hosted by Colonel and Mrs Hamilton in Sacramento. She toured state houses, viewed gold mining artifacts, attended a Jockey Club dance, and enjoyed a boxed box at the Orpheum. The city honored her with flowers and a gala itinerary before departing for Topeka.
Captain Brookes of the yacht Chiapa, anchored in the stream opposite Saunalite, was murdered at 2:45 AM by two pirates from a "Gay pirate" band. They looted the vessel and fled ashore as a companion was wounded, and Brookes, a longtime steerer and commodore of the yacht club, was well known locally. Weather notes from Chicago dated Sept 21 follow.
A Central road collision near White River and Ashland injures Walter Sharple fatally and others. Field killed instantly while Johnson and a third man, laborers from Eau Claire, escape with injuries as two train sections collapse in a grade descent. The men reportedly rode the train without tickets to reach Cloquet paper mill.

Seven masked men halted a westbound Missouri Pacific train near Leeds and Dawson seven miles from Kansas City at 9 40 pm. They dynamited the baggage and through safes, wrecking the car and scattering express matter. Passengers were spared, but a porter was forced from the train. Detectives arrived, no arrests by 10 am, and authorities suspect veteran criminals. Operator Hisey and Express Messenger Hills gave accounts of the raid and the card left behind purportedly signed by Kennedy Ryan Anderson and others.
