Great Revival of Silver Mine Ahead in Washington
Washington May 19 With export restrictions on silver by England and the United States the western silver mines anticipate a revival. Costs of supplies rise, labor resists wage cuts, yet a boom may come as costs adjust. Thirty years ago silver sold at 92 cents an ounce, but current profits vanish for many producers. Government delays in loan repayments and weak foreign offers hinder recovery. The region, disrupted by internal strife, shows little production, yet tundling signs point to a rebound as costs are managed and major producers reengage.
