Professor G B MacDonald of Iowa State College forecasts nearly ten million trees for the emergency conservation program in Iowa. Over two million trees will come from the Ames nursery and CCC stock, with willows cottonwood and black locusts to be planted in erosion control and gully bottoms, plus thousands of ornamentals in state parks. Also notes John Bosma very ill in Estherville hospital after recent ruptured appendix operation.

John Sachau is having plans drawn for a new residence on his farm east of town to be erected this fall. Miss Edith Budlong will leave next week to spend several months attending Morningside College at Sioux City. Stephen Carron, a young man who has been working for D W Smidt, for the past few weeks, left for parts unknown Thursday with Mr Smidt s new buggy. Mr and Mrs Smidt were at the Buffalo Center fair at the time. W N Townsend, who thirty years ago was the H Queal agent, told the Topic then that he had a number of farmers in who requested his presence at their home for dinner and to get acquinted with their daughters. Bill married anyway and is a very happy man.
The Angona All Stars defeated West Bend 13 to 4 at West Bend Sunday. The Algona baseball team lost 24 to 8 at Bode Sunday. Various local events include adoptions, divorces, legal actions, court appearances, and funeral attendance across Algona and nearby towns.
The Wadsworth family endured four deaths in eight months while M Christ of Ledyard filed a foreclosure action against tenant Fred Lanbs over interference with next year’s tenant Bert Patterson. Nine girls and eight boys are enrolled in this room totaling seventeen. Bonnie Beth Schram was absent several days last week due to illness, and Florence Willis missed Friday for sickness. Students made number booklets and keep all work in them. Harold Harringa turned eight on Monday September 18 and brought a candy treat for classmates. The room doll Patty has a bed built by the boys and quilts by the girls, plus a reading table book about Patty.
In our room there are 18 children, ten girls and eight boys. George brought cocoons and Louis brought caterpillars. The sixth grade invited us to their play Friday afternoon. We have health pictures and health books in progress, with work on the large bulletin board this week. A's in spelling earn red apples on our classroom tree. visitors are welcome.
Nineteen pupils in our grade include thirteen girls and six boys. Beryl Bonacker celebrated a birthday on Wednesday September sixth and brought a treat. We read Peter's Wonderful Adventure and enjoy it. Patrick Higging visited Friday afternoon. At 2 45 pm Friday we joined the sixth grade for a history reading dramatization. A grade A in spelling was earned by Wilma Heesch Trenettes Phyllis Lamoreux Richard Batt and Richard Groen.
In the fifth grade Gerhart Stecker treated the pupils to a birthday party last Thursday. Miss Lewick's class created Eskimo Land booklets for a geography project. Clara Eden was absent several days last week visiting relatives in Holland. The fifth graders total 22 pupils include 14 boys and 8 girls.
Miss Ruth Mayberry and Lela Stephens spent a Thursday evening visiting Miss Wellmeyer at Buffalo Center. Fern Krantz was absent from school Tuesday due to infection. Miss Wellmeyer of Buffalo Center, former Titanka teacher, visited Ruth Mayberry over the weekend. Bernice Larson had a painful accident Saturday cutting her left hand on barbed wire.
Edward Harris points to Chinese characters on his laundry ticket and asks if they spell his name. The laundryman replies that the characters read as ADAption, describing the man as a small, cross-eyed fellow with big feet.
