Pontine Marshes Transformed From Waste to Farm Land
National Geographic reports Italy’s Pontine marshes near Rome have been drained and reclaimed under Mussolini era programs. Since 1926 a consortium led by Senator Natale Prompolini built 160 miles of roads and canals, created four villages, and spent 710 million lire. The project, aided by Opera Nazionale Combattenti and landowners, aims to populate Littoria Sabagudia Pontinia with 20,000 peasants, eradicate malaria, and turn the area into productive farmland linked to Rome.

Saar Plebiscite driving Europe toward new clash
As Saar voters prepare for the January plebiscite on reunion with Germany, world eyes the 15 year league oversight, French and German propaganda, and the fragile balance of power. Analysts warn a German victory could spark a broader crisis while France insists on reparation terms. Germany must buy back mines and assume loans before any transfer.

A Little Boy Sees the Parade and a Kind Stranger
An unnamed narrator recalls a poor boy forced to miss a parade but aided by a generous man who buys him a seat for a quarter. The moment embodies charity’s lasting joy and urges readers to give happiness to needy children, noting progress and humanity as society evolves. The reflection contrasts modern invention with enduring social faults and calls for continued reform and kindness.
