Treatment of seed corn advocated by agent
County Agricultural Agent A. L. Brown says seed corn treatment pays over years. For 2 cents per acre cost, farmers can expect about 2 dollars additional income per acre based on 11 year Iowa State College data. Treated plots averaged 4 bushels more per acre, with corn valued at 61.5 cents on average. Seed treatment benefits early planted corn and poorly drained land, though drought or disease free seed may show less effect. it improves seed start by eradicating seed fungi and protecting seedlings briefly. Information on best dust type and application is available at the county agent office.
