Britannica Junior notes that sea water contains many elements and even traces of gold, but extraction is impractical. Sonn Stadt detected gold in sea water in 1870, estimating one grain per ton, yet since 1927 projects to extract gold have ceased as it takes 3,858 million parts of sea water for one part of pure gold.
Rose specialist Melvin E Wyandt of Painesville Ohio stresses regular spraying to curb aphids. He notes most growers spray but neglect frequency, explaining nicotine sulfate at one to two teaspoons per gallon with a touch of soap kills aphids by contact and fumes.
