Urge Poultrymen to Expand Flocks for War Needs

Iowa farmers are urged to buy more chicks and expand brood space to boost meat supplies for the armed forces and civilians. Poultry specialist W R Whitfield cites rising prices and notes many producers plan fewer chicks. He advises two broods, 12 weeks apart, with care of cockerels and pullets, and suggests buying straight-run chicks to increase pullets, even if it means larger brooder space. Forms for home sugar canning will be available starting Friday April 27 via county extension offices or Iowa State College Extension Service.
