Sorenson Rites Held at Burt
Funeral services were held Wednesday at the Presbyterian church for Ben J. Sorenson born August 1891 in Fenton. He died April 19 from a heart attack after moving from Worthington to Burt in 1944. He leaves a widow Lydia Reber five children four brothers and two sisters buried at Burt.

Vernon Winter Wounded in Action on Luzon P I
Ubbe Winter received word from the war department that his son Vernon A Winter was slightly wounded on April 3 at Luzon in the Philippines and had been taken to an hospital in the East Indies. Vernon, the youngest of three brothers, had served about three and a half years and spent nearly three years in the southwest Pacific area.

Grandson of AMAS family dies from war wounds
Pvt. Roy Hi Tryon, 22, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Tryon of Austin Minnesota, died in a Maglang hospital after shrapnel was removed from his skull. Born at Wesley he lived with his grandparents Mr and Mrs Ama. He attended Titonka high school, worked at Hormel in Austin, and volunteered for service last May. He went overseas November 7 and was wounded at Matzen on November 26. He leaves a wife and five children. A letter from an English wife of a soldier friend describes Roy's letters home and hope for recovery.
