Voters in York Township cast 237 ballots to fill seven seats on Unit School District No. 301 board. Elected were Sipped, Hole singer, Green, Haas, Dykstra, Dittmar, and Hook with write-ins Hoy, Bielema, and Brach noted. Hans elected president, Green secretary. Regular meetings set for first Tuesday monthly. Terms set for three, two, and one years.

Mr and Mrs Charles Huizenga of rural Thomson were surprised with a 25th wedding anniversary party last Saturday at Union Grove school. About fifty relatives attended and gifts included a money tree. The couple married September 24 1941 in Spring Valley Reformed Church. They have two children Arlyn and Lois and one grandchild Brenda Sue. A new subscriber Don Morris of Thomson is noted.

A telegram reported Tuesday afternoon that Carroll Fulton Henderson and Whiteside counties were named drought disaster areas by the Secretary of Agriculture. The designation allows county committees to permit grazing and haying on land diverted from crop production under USDA programs with downward payment adjustments for grazing or haying. Emergency FHA loans remain available to eligible farmers in Henderson and Whiteside counties.

Mrs Herman Rus aged 75 died Tuesday morning at Clinton Nursing Home Lyons after a lingering illness. Funeral services are Friday at 2 pm with a 1 45 family prayer service at Morrison Christian Reformed Church Rev Garrett D Pars officiating. Burial in Fulton cemetery. Bosma Funeral Home Fulton open after 7 pm Wednesday. Born Muskegon Michigan July 10 1891 daughter of Fred and Bessie Sissing Bos educated in Whiteside County schools married Herman Rus March 12 1912. he died May 28 this year. Surviving: son Raymond H of Lake Worth Florida. five daughters Betty Addy Alameda California Margaret Vanderlaan Morrison Pherne Huisingh Thomson Clara Meinsma Morrison Jeane Sikkema Fulton. 23 grandchildren 3 great grandchildren. two sisters Elizabeth Hook and Annie Bos Fulton. The Rock Island District of the Corps of Engineers expands recreational facilities at the Thomson Causeway Public Use Area along a new 3400 foot rock surfaced road parallel to Potter road. New amenities include a well two restrooms ten picnic tables fireplaces fire rings and culverts to extend access across Thomson slough with bids to buy 1.35 tons of rock opening Oct 12 1966. Fred Fiet of West Branch Iowa purchased Clover Farm grocery in Thomson and will take possession Oct 10. He and Mrs. Fiet traveled to Leach Lake Minnesota for a fishing trip.
