Fire drills practice continues with strict leave and return rules. Scouting volunteers raise the flag daily. Junior high teams compete in the Carroll County Conference with a Sept 27 trek to Chestnut Park. FHA plans Balesville Instruction event in Thom son Sept 29. Over 400 girls enroll Sept 29.
The Churches WORK COMMUNITY lists activities for Baptist, Methodist, and Catholic congregations. Details include worship times at multiple sites, Rally Day observances, Sunday school schedules, youth and MYF events, upcoming business meetings, and a charity booth festival with donations to Rosecrance and Peek homes. Services span Fulton and Savanna with morning and afternoon hours.
The weekly menu lists meals for October 1 to 5. Monday offers baked beans cabbage salad bread and milk. Tuesday features barbecued sandwiches pickles buttered corn cake and milk. Wednesday serves creamed turkey on biscuits green lima beans bread and butter cherries and milk. Thursday includes baked ham with gravy mashed potatoes peas bread and butter apple sauce and milk. Friday provides macaroni and cheese Harvard beets bread and butter fruit cocktail and milk.
About 25 members and guests of the WSCS of the Thomson Methodist Church attended an evening gathering last Wednesday at 8 PM. Mrs. G A Smith greeted attendees. Devotions and the program were led by Mrs. Paul Heusinkveld and Mrs. Merle Prins with solos by Rev. Wilbur Nicholson. A candlelight registration marked old members, and new members will join in May. The society voted to send the high school girls and chaperons to the World Friendship Banquet at Savanna Methodist Church on Oct. 17. New program books were distributed and refreshments served by Mines Ernest Rathje, Paul V Wilt, John Root and Ben Wagner.
Local campaign chairmen Mrs. Harold Wilt and Mrs. Merle Cate announce a Girl Scout drive Oct. 16 across the Jane Addams Council area to meet a $24,000 budget target with a Thomson vicinity team of ten girls and five adults calling on friends and neighbors. Contributions stay within the Jane Reydams Council.
Mrs. Merle Cate entertained David Stagg Brian Stagg and Bobby Wilt after school last Wednesday September 19 for the sixth birthday of her son Bradley The boys enjoyed playing and were served birthday cake and ice cream.
Mr and Mrs Gene Diephuis and Mark of Fulton returned from a week of camping visiting Mammoth Cave Kentucky Lake Springfield Illinois and New Salem.
Mr. and Mrs. John Ashpole were Sunday overnight guests of her sister Mrs. Nina Jackson in DeWitt Iowa. On Monday they attended the funeral of his sister Mrs. Frank Betts in DeWitt Iowa and returned home Monday afternoon.
The Thomson varsity band joined sixteen high school bands and the NIU Marching band in a Band Day ceremony at Northern Illinois University DeKalb. Students traveled by two buses driven by Mervin Marshall and Paul Wilt. chaperons included Mr and Mrs Richard Larsen and others.
Mr and Mrs Dan Sack of Tucson Arizona former Thomson residents have purchased a new home and their address is 4849 North Gold Ave Tucson Arizona Mr and Mrs Lawrence Halfman and family and Mr and Mrs Leslie Grim and family enjoyed a picnic Sunday at Old Mill Park in Savanna

Mrs. Mary Ann Bender arrived at her parents home after four months at the Professional Institute in Minneapolis. She spent a week with relatives in Chicago and plans to depart for California for employment. Mr. and Mrs. Donald Cox and family visited DeSoto Wisconsin. Everett Eslinger of Clinton and Mrs. Jennie Griswold were guests. Monday dinner guests were Mrs. Alfred Dykstra and Mrs. R. C. Bush.
Dr. E H Gholson of Savanna is recuperating at Apt W Village Inn Motel Mt Horeb Wisconsin after an emergency appendectomy performed at Madison General Hospital. He is slowly improving and glad to hear from friends in Carroll County.
Mrs. Andrew Hook Sr of Fulton and Mrs. Mary Hook of Argo Fay visited the Hook home in Fulton. Friends and relatives from Milledgeville Mt. Carroll and Aurora joined a picnic and birthday observance for Mrs. Andrew Hook Sr. at the Hook residence. Supper guests included the Atherton Eslinger Smith families and Mattie children.
Supper guests visited Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Smith with Calvin Eslinger and family and Ronald and Mike Atherton present. Nell Bennett stayed overnight with the Strauchs. Swett joined Edward French at Savanna for Sunday dinner.
Mr and Mrs Charles Yost of 4316 Regal Ave NE Cedar Rapids announce the birth of their daughter Maria Delain born September 1 The mother Delain Facile formerly taught first grade in Thomson for several years
Joseph Walter Starr 77 of Muscatine died at home September 20. Funeral held Monday at 2:30 PM at Davenport Chapel. Buried Davenport Memorial Park. Survived by wife four sons Harold Starr Thomson Gale Ross Walter Ma noketa. daughters Jeanor Fields Oxford Junction Mary Mitchell Muskegon Betty Williams Grand Rapids. 29 grandchildren ten great grandchildren. Preceded by two siblings and a daughter.
About 75 Lions club members and guests attended an Appreciation Dinner at the Argo Fay Methodist church last Monday. President Mervin Marshall awarded 62 Certificates of Appreciation to Melon Day helpers. Dr Karl Reddies urged Sabin Oral Vaccine participation and Deputy District Governor Folk of Dixon spoke on the Lions International convention in Nice France.
About twenty five members of the York Baptist Church attended the morning service at Mt Carroll Baptist Church last Sunday. After the service a fellowship dinner was held in the church basement. Rev Harold Schlink area secretary of Princeton Illinois spoke to the group.
Mr and Mrs Fred Miller of Riverview sold their house on Thomson river road south of Fin and Feather resort with two acres to Mr and Mrs Earl Neis of Savanna. The sale occurred at a public auction last Saturday September 22.
Mrs Hazel Stagg attended the County Welfare Services meeting held yesterday at the Marian Smith Tea Room in Mt. Carroll. It was a dinner meeting with speaker D Millard Farmer District Representative of the Public Aid Commission.
Mrs. Roger Pearson and daughters Jody and Tabilee arrived in Chicago for a visit with her parents Mr. and Mrs. Virgil Wilt and other relatives. They traveled by jet and were greeted at O'Hare Field by her mother and by Gilpin Stagg.อื่น
The U S Public Health communique notes Sabin Oral Vaccine safety and urges universal vaccination. Thomson school cafeteria hosts a Sunday drive on Sept 30 from 11 AM to 7 PM with transportation via Thomson 2732. Sugar cube doses will be used, with water option for those unable to take sugar. The effort is sponsored by the Thomson Woman's Club, Thomson PTA, and Carroll County Medical Society.
Blair family members and relatives gathered at Mackay's Timber Lake for a Sept. reunion honoring the late Mr. and Mrs. Joe Blair. A potluck meal followed by games and fishing concluded with officers elected for the next year and plans to meet on the third Sunday in September.

York Community Young People open their newly painted recreation room Sunday September 30 at 7 PM with officers presiding. Weekend guests include Hazel Green and daughter Leslie Merrill of Wheaton visiting Russel Green and family in Thomson.
Sick Mrs. Edna Shoemaker was dismissed last week from Savanna hospital after a ten day stay. Steven Brown was recently in and out of Savanna hospital. Elizabeth Harvey of Bettendorf has been dismissed from St. Luke’s Davenport after surgery and is convalescing at home. Mrs. Robert Tichler of Morrison, sister of Mrs. Alfred Dykstra, underwent major surgery at Morrison hospital. Mrs. Wesley Cooper of Argo Fay had surgery Monday at Morrison hospital. Mrs. Julius Orthhmann was confined to bed at home for several days. Mrs. Albert Lynch remains a medical patient in Jane Lamb hospital. Paul Still, fallen from a horse injuring his back, was dismissed Monday from Mercy hospital and is now bedbound at home.
The Men and Ladies Bible classes met at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Heitman with eleven members present. They voted to move the regular meeting night from the last Wednesday to the last Tuesday of each month and enjoyed a program followed by a lunch hosted by the ladies.
Mr and Mrs Roy Heitman and Mrs Mervin Marshall attended the 122nd annual meeting of the Rock River Association of Baptist Churches held all day Saturday at the Baptist church in DeKalb Illinois. In the afternoon they attended the open house and dedication of a Student Foundation Center on the Northern Illinois University campus sponsored and supported by the Baptist Churches.
Mrs Laura Croffett of Savannah was honored at a birthday party Friday evening at her home. One guest attended. Prizes were awarded to Mrs Howard Platt Mrs William Doherty and Mrs Angie Yeager.
Kara Lou and Ray Allen Grim were Saturday overnight visitors in Lawrence. Mr. and Mrs. James Morrison and Mr. and Mrs. Otto Switzer left Monday for Mankato Minnesota to visit Mrs. Morrison's sister. Mr. and Mrs. Arlie Edwards of Morrison were Saturday afternoon visitors at the Workman home. Mrs. Loyal Brunner and children were Sunday visitors at the Halfman home. Sunday evening visitors were Carrol Landherr and family of Lanark. Albert Prins visited last Wednesday with Ben Dykstra. Mrs. John Stearns and her boys of Clinton visited the Plumey home Tuesday afternoon.
