The Carroll County Council of the American Legion Auxiliary met in Chadwick on September 26 with 48 members and 2 guests. Officers installed included President Floyd Robison Chadwick and several others. Miss Kathy Weaver Polo was welcomed as Illini Girls State Governor. A memorial for Grace Sweitzer Lanark was observed and next meeting set for Oct. 24 in Lanark. Visitors Charles Hill Verna Smith Evansville Arthur Hill Sherman attended in Mt. Carroll.

Kaufman Named Assistant General Service Manager at American Lincoln

Donald L. Kaufman from Maquoketa Iowa is named Assistant General Service Manager for American Lincoln with factories in Toledo and Bowling Green Ohio. He will assist field and factory service operations across American Floor Machine, Power Tool, Lincoln Floor Machinery, and Wilshire Power Sweeper companies. He previously served ten years as service manager for Clinton Engines and Maquoketa. He holds a BS from the University of Illinois and will reside in Toledo with his wife and two sons. American Lincoln, established 1903, operates plants in Toledo Bowling Green and Watertown New York.

Mare Is Killed By Fence Wire

The five year old saddle mare owned by the Leslie Durward family of Argo-Fa was found dead in a field west of Argo. The mare had been missing two days and the throat injuries were caused by entanglement with a recently installed electric fence. A veterinarian confirmed the injuries resulted from the wire.

Vandals Knock Over Corn Shocks Near Argo Fay

Sheriff reports investigation underway after vandals toppled a large number of corn shocks in a field along the highway east of Argo Fay. Harry Miller responded Sunday to Will Guinther farm where most local farmers still cut and shock corn in the field.

Carroll County Reports 61 Percent Polio Vaccine Uptake

About 11,609 residents across Carroll County received Sabin oral polio vaccine Sunday as the mass immunization began. County leaders aimed higher, but Dr. Karl Reddies said the response was satisfactory despite fears about the Type III vaccine.
