Annual TB Skin Test to be Given Tuesday Sept 26

The annual tuberculosis skin testing program will be conducted at Thomson School on Tuesday Sept 26. The Mantoux test will be administered by local physicians at no cost, with results read after three days and follow up chest X rays advised if positive. Parental consent forms were distributed to students earlier.

Demonstration of New Tree Digger at Timber Lake Nursery

Alan Skagg of Timber Lake Nursery showcased a large tree digger and plant remover on a trailer with self contained power and hydraulic systems. The device drags spades into the ground and tilts trees up to a horizontal position for transplanting, handling trees about 4 inches in diameter and 25 feet tall.

Santa Fe Honors Bruckner for FFA Leadership Award

Lawrence Bruckner of Thomson Illinois received a Santa Fe educational award and a merit certificate at a Warren High School leadership conference near Monmouth. The 1967 Illinois Star State Farmer and district FFA leader was among eight Illinois youths honored, with two college scholarships awarded to Hunsley and Beswick.

World Traveler Fred Nipe Heads for Expo 67 Tour

Fred Nipe of Mount Carroll Illinois left Chicago on Wednesday September 20 for a ten day tour and cruise to Expo 67 in Montreal. The trip includes Henry Ford Museum Niagara Falls and Expo 67 with travel by bus ship and rail via the St Lawrence Seaway. Nipe 78 has taken 26 Prairie Farmer No-Worry Tours since 1949 and values water travel for its freedom and scenery. He cites Hawaii as his favorite destination and enjoys meeting fellow travelers who travel these tours again and again.

Band Boosters Plan Campaign for New Uniforms in 1968

The Band Boosters met September 18 with eight members and Mr Earle Mailand. They aim to raise 1400.60 to reach a 2500 goal for 50 uniforms by mid 1968, plan a candy sale the week of Thanksgiving, and discuss fund raising events including a spring variety show and a benefit basketball game.
