Savanna tennis reports show Thomson Consolidated School instructor Miss Louella Weidman and Dr. L B Hussey winning the county tournament mixed doubles 7-5 6-2 at Old Mill park. Family Honor Chester Algoe at Kendall Young Park

Chester Algoe a member of the U S Army motorcycle cavalry was honored by relatives at Kendall Young park. He had built a racing reputation with wins in St Paul and Beaver Dam before the war paused contests. He competed in the county fair races last fall and was edged by pros after turning the local track in under 34 seconds. Kyle P McGinnis now stationed at Tacoma has been sent to Bowling Hill Virginia.

Reading Circle Hosts Meeting at L Greeley Home

Mrs Lyle Greeley hosted the Teachers Reading Circle at her home Tuesday. The group, smaller this year, discussed beginning chapters of three books and noted local school arrangements. Refreshments were served as members listed include Roland Starck Parkhill and Mrs Harvey Seim Oil Valley. The next meeting is set for Thursday Oct 8 with Mrs Stage.

August Library Report Highlights Circulation Totals

The August library report shows adult fiction circulation 109 and classed books 22, magazines 40, and one new subscriber registration. In the juvenile department story books circulate 106 and classed books 7, with magazines 34. Grace Strauch serves as librarian.

Carroll County War Price Board to Expand to 12 Members

Plans to increase the War Price and Ration Board to at least 12 persons are underway as officials are asked to submit names. Charles Kingery of Mr. Carroll, chairman of the county civilian defense council, says the enlarged board will improve representation and handle new duties including gasoline and mileage rationing.

Busy Bee Club Members Attend Illinois Student Homemakers Camp

Alma Robinson and Letha Gaar were chosen to represent York Community High School at East Bay Camp on Lake Bloomington, near Bloomington, Aug 27 to 30. They stayed in cabins with about 60 girls, attended daily meetings on crafts, folk dancing, orchestra, glee club, tennis and swimming, and brought back ideas for the local club. Arla Brown attended last year as the first participant. The four day camp replaces the fall conference for Vocational Homemaking Teachers. tuition was paid by the Busy Bee club.

Women’s Society Discusses Missions and Soldier Boy Gift
