A 1931 Studebaker owned by J. W. Wagner, stolen from Oak Park in Savanna, was found at 11 a.m near Thomson by Sheriff Eber Shepherd. The vehicle had been driven by Willard Hartman, a mechanic at the Wagner garage, who parked it in front of his home Sunday night. Wagner and Hartman went to Thomson to retrieve it. Harold Holm and Danny Etnyre were Sunday dinner guests in Lanark.
Thieves entered six Thomson businesses during the night, breaking windows and stealing cash, stamps, and merchandise. Losses ranged from a few cents to a $100 gun, with several cars moved but not taken and no homes reportedly broken into. Sheriff Eber Shepherd investigated and alerted authorities along a train route.

A man removed from a Savanna train on Sept 1 was identified Friday night as Woodrow Steenstrip of Chicago by his wife, child, and father. Sheriff Eber Shepherd reported the family came to Mt. Carroll and identified him, though he did not recognize them. He had been missing since Aug 27.
