Amnesia Victim Removed From Train At Savanna
A young man claiming amnesia was taken off a Savanna train last Thursday and turned over to authorities after telling the conductor he could not recall his name or origin. He suspects boarding at Davis Junction and works as a truck driver. Sheriff Eber Shepherd took charge as officials search for his home with State Police aid from Sterling. He is about 20 to 25, 5 ft 11 in, blue eyes, brown hair, fair skin, 155 pounds, with a scar on the back of his right hand and initials E H K in his shirt collar. He wore a blue shirt, serge trousers, new black oxfords, and carried some money with a key ring.

Slaughter Ruling Clarified For Farm Meat Use And Slaughter
A recent reading of Food Distribution Order No 75 clarifies slaughter privileges for farmers. A landowner may slaughter cattle calves sheep lambs and hogs for himself his immediate family and residents or workers without surrendering ration points. A resident landowner may also obtain a permit to sell up to 400 pounds per year. Ownership of land and livestock determines eligibility, and contracts by a third party do not grant slaughter rights without land title.

Arrested After Threatening To Blow Up House
Leo Maxwell a 40 year old resident of Milledgeville was arrested Wednesday night by Sheriff Eber D Shepherd after Ethel Letcher who roomed with Maxwell accused him of threatening to blow up her house with dynamite. He was bound over to the grand jury on a charge of wilfully and wantonly threatening to use dynamite. Maxwell could not post 500 bond and remained in the county jail. Authorities found dynamite fuses and caps under his bed and in the yard. the sheriff noted he had worked as an explosive operator in a stone quarry.

Tax payments reach ninety five percent of 1942 roll
Carroll county reports approximately 95 percent of the 1942 tax assessed on property has been paid with total receipts of 614,599.96 to date. County Treasurer Frank L. Ross notes substantial back-tax payments as well and that about 105,700 in tax funds were distributed to taxing units Friday. All townships exceed 90 percent paid, led by Lima and Shannon, with Fair Haven and Cherry Grove following. Savanna and Freedom lag at around 60 percent.
