Hot Lunch Menu Week Highlights

Monday features hot dogs, potato chips, buttered corn, graham cracker dessert and milk with orange juice. Tuesday serves meat loaf with potatoes and gravy, sliced tomatoes, celery, bread and butter and ice cream. Wednesday offers creamed y with noodles and peas with biscuits jelly and applesauce. Thursday presents lasagna with cottage cheese, read and butter and jello. Friday includes meat pie supreme, cole slaw and peanut butter cake.

Carroll Red Cross Meeting Plans Help for Vietnam Donors

Carroll County Red Cross members met at Elmer and Mrs. Weber’s Chadwick home on August 26, 1969. They discussed making dirty bags for service men in Vietnam, urged volunteer groups to assist, and reported a Katrina Camille area appeal with an $846 goal and September 15 deadline. Bloodmobile visits were planned for October 12 in Mt. Carroll and December 15 in Savanna.

Ambulance Called For Mrs Paulsen After Illness

The Thomson ambulance was sent to the home of Mr Henry Paulsen on a late Wednesday afternoon call as Mrs Paulsen fell ill. She received oxygen and was transported to Savanna City hospital where staff report she is feeling fine today. Mrs Paulsen recently underwent open heart surgery at the University Research hospital in Chicago.

August 1969 Marriage Licenses Set Record at Courthouse

County Clerk William Nipe records show 27 marriage licenses issued in August 1969, the highest for August in nineteen years. June and July saw 26 licenses each, the usual low period for wedding filings in the same year.

Fay Ashby Appointed Carroll County Road Supervisor

Fay Ashby of Thomson has been named Maintenance Supervisor for Carroll County by the Illinois Department of Highways. The appointment took effect September 1, with Ashby previously acting as labor foreman. Carlyle Richter of Mt. Carroll and Lynn Speers of Lanark were named new labor foremen to lead two crews countywide.

Sauk Valley Plans Public Tours of New College Facility

Sauk Valley College announces three Sunday tours in September led by President Edward J. Sabol. The 85 percent complete three story facility will host tours on September 7 14 and 21 starting at 1 pm with guides and child care. The building spans 810 feet and 8 acres of floor space designed for about 2000 full time students and aims to finish in December.
