Hanover Man Dies After Auto Crash

Bernard Russell Arno 27 of Craig Manor Hanover died at Savanna City hospital from injuries suffered in a Saturday evening crash on Route 52 west of Sabula Iowa. An inquest jury found death from injuries after he fell asleep at the wheel. He was a World War II veteran employed at the Savanna Ordnance Depot. He is survived by his wife Lorain Dick parents Floyd and Pauline Arno a brother Clarence and a sister Myrtle Dailey and other relatives. Military funeral services were held with Veterans of Foreign Wars in charge. Rev Gerhard Fischer officiated at Savanna cemetery. Born May 18 1920 in Savanna he attended local schools and married March 2 1943.

IL Rh Downs reported hot weather reduced corn prospects, but seed fields are progressing for a good seed crop. A 6 percent stock dividend and $1 per bushel seed corn dividend were announced.

Extend Deadline For Positions In Army Nurse Corps

The War Department extended the application deadline for Regular Army Nurse Corps integration to Sept. 80 to give all qualified nurses more opportunity. Peacetime nurses include career officers and Reserve nurses on extended active duty. Applicants must be 21 to 34, with child or marriage restrictions applying to Regular Army appointments. Champaign County amassed a record total of 3155 points to win the eighth annual Farm Sports Festival drawing 20000 spectators and 4000 to 4200 contestants across six districts. Bulldozer Pulls Down Pole Cuts Chadwick Power

Electric service to Chadwick was cut from 10 30 a m to noon Saturday after a bulldozer clearing brush on the Chadwick Argo road struck a guy wire and toppled a light pole. Repair crews shut off power during repairs.

Alleged Forger Nabbed in Michigan Convicted in Kona

George H. Spencer aged 50 alias Lawrence Krueger was convicted of forgery at Kona Michigan and sentenced to seven to 21 years in state prison. Sheriff Henry Truninger was notified and links to earlier forged checks in Sterling and Dixon.

No Report By Grand Jury In Carroll County Session

The recalled June term grand jury for Carroll county did not return any true bills. Jurors will reconvene Sept 15 to continue investigations including the Aug 12 accident in which Mr. and Mrs. Frank Warfield of Thomson died when a car driven by Colby Loechel of Chadwick ran off the road into their yard.

The Carroll County Clerk’s office issued licenses to Robert E. Ludwig and Blanche Seim of Trenton Michigan, Donald DeJaynes and Virginia Vollrath of La Prairie, Thomas J. Carroll, pleaded guilty to disorderly conduct before Justice Frank Schroeppel and was fined 100 dollars plus costs and remanded until payment. He had a prior 100 dollar fine ten days earlier for drunken on a public highway. A divorce was granted Tuesday by Judge Leon A. Zick to George Schnitzler and Ethel Schnitzler of Mt. Carroll.

Miss Mary Acker Killed In Drive On Rainy Curve

Miss Mary LaVonne Acker 20 of Mt Carroll died when her car collided with a heavy truck on the Pfundstein curve south of Milledgeville during a rain storm. Two passengers were injured. Leona Jellericks severely, Evelyn Lego minor injuries. Truck driver R E Tillman escaped harm. Authorities note the truck crossed the center line on wet pavement. Acker worked in Sterling CIO office and was engaged to Maynard Decker. Funeral held at Mt Carroll Lutheran church.
