Herman Peugh of Coleta Dies at 70
Herman Peugh, 70, of the Coleta area, died at 8 p m Wednesday at Sterling public hospital after a week-long admission. Funeral services were held Saturday at the Coleta Christian church. He was born August 13, 1877, married to Anna Deets in 1912, and survived by his widow, two sons Russell and Rex, a daughter Helen Mae, and two sisters Mrs Roy Partridge and Mrs Frank Anthony. The Malewicki family of Winona, Minn., visit Mr and Mrs Harry Root.

Rain Brings Relief From Searing Heat
Clouds rolled in Sunday afternoon to ease a weeklong heat wave that reached 190 degrees in the area. By Monday the temperature dropped to 80 or lower and fell below 70 Monday night. Heavy showers Monday broke the drought, offering crop relief though much of August stayed hot with little rain.

Pasture Field Day Draws Large Lanark Crowd
About 1000 people attended the pasture field day Monday at the Kenneth Kuhlemeyer farm north of Lanark. Demonstrations showed methods to improve pasture land and various equipment used in the practice was exhibited and demonstrated. Mr and Mrs Ernest Smith and family spent last Sunday at Lake Geneva Wisconsin.

Two Men Hurt As Trucks Collide Near Mt Carroll
Two pickup trucks collided on Route 78 two miles north of Mt Carroll injuring two men. Oscar Brunner aged 53 suffered face cuts and bruises after being thrown under the vehicle. Richard Peterson, 25, sustained a three inch gash on the left knee and other cuts. Brunner had two passengers Frank and Joe McDearmon who were unhurt. Sheriff Truninger and Deputy Miller investigated as both vehicles sustained extensive damage.
