Perfect Attendance Noted and Rhythm Band Begins

Seventh grade pupils report perfect attendance by Phylis Webster Bernard Hartman Bernice Hartman Paul Hartman Betty Webster Edwin Webster and Elizabeth Ann Otteson. The class starts a rhythm band with new pieces to come and three visitors Violet Hartman Mabel Webster and Mr Starck this month. Elizabeth Ann Otteson leaves soon after Halloween activities and a farewell party is held. Mrs Elsie Stiles visits Thomson relatives.

Ceiling prices set for farm seeds by OPA

The OPA fixes maximum retail prices for hay and legume seed sold to farmer consumers with transportation charges extra. Tables list Northern Central Southern alfalfa seed prices for producers and retailers, red clover, Alsike clover, sweet clover, and Timothy seed. AAA payments may also be earned by growers, supporting soil fertility and pasture needs.

The Carroll county farm machinery rationing board issued permits October 18 to October 23 for tractors to Joe J. Sikkema and H. L. Adams. A corn picker went to Merlyn D. Schreiner and a milking machine to Vernon Linstrom.

Mrs Hattie Brown and Roland Starck of West Chicago visited at the Guy Brown home Sunday. Roland returned home Monday and Mrs Brown will stay. John Carroll and Eldon Hickey hosted Sunday supper at Victor Carlson’s in Camanche. Mrs A M Olson of Morrison visited, former Miss Phyllis Rick. The Carroll County Dairy Herd Improvement Association delayed its annual meeting planned for Thursday evening October 28. The postponement is due to the absence of principal speaker J G Cash. Officials expect to reschedule for mid November with date to be announced.

United War Fund Drive Opens On Armistice Day

On Armistice Day November 11 the United War Fund drive for Carrol County starts and runs through Thanksgiving with a county quota of 216200. About 60 percent of funds go to the USO and the rest to other participating groups including the Y M C A Y W C A National Catholic Community Council Salvation Army Jewish Welfare Board and National Travelers Aid Association.

Dairy subsidy payments to be issued soon

Chairman Herman Dachler announces Oct 1 start for dairy subsidy records to compute payments under the new dairy feed program. Rates are 30 cents per hundredweight for whole milk and four cents per pound for butterfat, with payments running Oct 1 to Dec 31 1943 and initial payments likely for October sales.

Deaths in ATHS County Savanna and Milledgeville area

The Rev Charles E Froch about 55 of Dixon died at 3 45 am Saturday at the home in Savanna from a heart ailment. Surviving are his widow and 3 nieces. Aunt Amanda Livengood 94 widow of Henry Livengood known to Milledgeville citizens died at 4 am Wednesday at her home after years of ill health. Services were held at the Brethren church with interment in Dutchtown cemetery. She was born July 9 1853 in Somerset County Pa and moved to Carroll county in 1864. She married Henry Livengood Feb 5 1871 and retired to Milledgeville in 1908. Three children survive Charles W Livengood and Alice Livengood of Milledgeville and a son Charles Livengood. a daughter Anna preceded her mother in death. There are three grandchildren and three great grandchildren. A brother Rev J Miller, retired Brethren minister, resides in Polo.

John Demaree Named Naval Academy Candidate

John Dale Demaree son of Mr and Mrs Glenn Demaree of Dixon is nominated for entrance to the U S Naval Academy at Annapolis Md in July 1944. He earned the nomination through Rep Leo E Allen and is a York Community High School graduate class of 1942. He has completed three semesters at the University of Illinois and will enroll for the second semester to qualify by certificate, with a brother Capt Robert G Demaree in the adjutant division at Camp Blanden Fla.

Carroll County rationing board reports 17 186 people registered for war ration book 4 during last week. Registrations declined slightly since book 2, with Savanna and Mt Carroll showing notable drops. Some losses due to military inductions, others to factory job shifts at Savanna ordnance depot.

Carroll County Farm Boys To Show Stock

Eugene Strauch sixteen of Lanark and Junior Delp sixteen of Mt. Carroll will exhibit at the Chicago Market Fat Stock and Carlot Competition at Chicago Stock Yards from November nine to December two. Strauch enters a Hereford steer in the Junior Classes and Delp shows a Hereford and an Angus steer. The market show includes all fat classes in junior and open divisions previously featured at the International Show. Entries close November one for individual classes and November twenty for carlot classes.

Savanna Grid Team Loses After Long Winning Streak

Savanna high school's grid team saw its 22 game win streak end as Sterling Community high defeated Carroll county eleven 7 to 6 at Steve ling. Sterling scored in the second quarter. Savanna finally scored in the third and failed to convert a late extra point, the miss proving costly.

Father and Son Banquet at Dutchtown Church

The Dutchtown church men’s organization will host its annual Father and Son banquet on November 2 at 7 p m. A chicken dinner will be served by the Dutchtown ladies and all are welcome. Speaker Joseph Ackerman of the Farm Foundation in Chicago will address attendees.
