The Thomson PTA declares plans complete for a Halloween Mardi Gras event Monday evening at the school. Preschoolers assemble at 6:45 for costume judging, with Krahn introducing guests and prizes. Junior and senior students parade through town in a snake dance, followed by a record dance in the gym and refreshments.
About 125 Carroll County residents attended a Wednesday Farm Bureau meeting in Savanna to hear Good Samaritan Society officials outline plans for a Mount Carroll nursing home. The drive aims to raise 67000 to buy five acres or accept land donation, noting sewer and water access is essential.
Thomson FFA chapter held an annual pest control contest ending October 18. Names posted daily determined losers by tallying points. top half winners planned the hayride at Mike Voss home with a wiener roast. Reporter Steve Houzenga.
Wayne G. Tidd, superintendent of the Thomson Community Unit School, announces that report cards for kindergarten through high school will be distributed on Wednesday November 1 for the first grading period. Kindergarten through grade six cards must be signed and returned. junior and senior high cards need not be signed or returned. If a parent does not see a card, check with the student.
A 12:45 a.m. crash at routes 64 and 78 near Mount Carroll injured two drivers. Kenneth Ory Allen of Otway Ohio suffered severe head and facial injuries and was listed in satisfactory condition after being hospitalized at Savannah City Hospital. Delbert Huebner of Sabula Iowa sustained facial lacerations and back and shoulder injuries and was in good condition. Sheriff Harry H Miller led the investigation.
Mr and Mrs Marion Davis of Huntington Beach Calif visited Mr and Mrs Robert Plumley on Wednesday afternoon. Mrs Vada Carroll called on Mrs Kathryn Cooper on Thursday. Mrs Larry Kline and son of Savanna visited Mrs Richard Atherton and family on Monday.
The American Red Cross Bloodmobile visit to Savanna on Tuesday October 24 proved highly successful with 152 area residents reporting and 132 units of blood collected Twenty donors were rejected for various reasons Volunteer workers included nurses Betty Bryson Sharon Tosch Betty Stebbins Margaret Verne Harriett Allen County nurse Jean Airhart laboratory technician Karen Tedrow Ruth Sanders Gray Lady Vernis Willis Burnelle Weiler greeters Genevieve Winkler Viola Lahey Judy Risinger typists Rosemary Terry Becky Cravatta Honey Williams along with loading crew led by Wayne McFadden Jim McDougal Hoyt Ferris Art Weidman Lowell Struckman Milo Mann Ore McCoy Rudy Polstin Joe Wierma Refreshments were donated by the hospital club and served by several members Donors came from Savanna Thomson Mount Carroll Millledgeville Lanark Chadwick Elizabeth Hanover and La Crosse Wisconsin.
Sick Donald Ashpole of Mo Line Illinois is in a Moline hospital with a broken leg from last Friday football game. Sharon Mattie 12 of LaCrosse Wisconsin had emergency appendectomy Saturday night. Shaun is granddaughter of Mr and Mrs George Mattie of Thomson. Danny Wilkenson is ill with mumps. Virgil Wilt had surgery October 18 at Savanna City Hospital and returned home. Jacquelyn Lyle and Scottie Morrow children of Don and Mrs Morrow are ill with mumps.
Community leaders from Carroll County met in Mount Carroll to push a Good Samaritan Nursing Home project. They discussed turning the recognized need into action and launching a November fund drive with county volunteers. Jim Colehour offered five acres of land for the facility, signaling local commitment.
The schedule lists games for the Trojans with dates from November to February including tournaments at Thomson Holi day and Forreston. Home games are noted with here and away games with there with all starts at 6 45 p m except Feb 2 and Feb 13.
Mr and Mrs Calvin Eslinger hosted a hamburger fry Saturday night for Cal Eslinger's 29th birthday. Guests included Mr and Mrs Gene Marken Steven and Mr and Mrs John C Atherton and Bonnie Jo. William Gengenbach and family attended a Sunday noon dinner at the home of his parents Carl and (Mrs) Gengenbach in Mount Carroll Illinois.
In Thomson High School elections for Clinton Mardi Gras, senior Rita Fehler was chosen as Queen candidate and Michael Atherton as King candidate. The Thom son Varsity Band will march in the parade in Clinton and candidates will ride in convertibles. Each school in the band parade may enter royalty candidates to crown the Mardi Gras King and Queen for the evening.
The Carroll County unit of the American Cancer Society held its fall meeting October 18 at the Milledgeville home of Mr. and Mrs Warehime with R B Law as president. Reports covered film on research progress noting two of four cancers now saved, and a cigarette smoking hazards film.

The Thomson Varsity Band and 49 members joined 76 parade units at Southern Wisconsin University in Plateville. The band earned a second place in Class D as 34 marching bands competed, with Pom-pom girls leading and drum major Lawrence Bruckner signaling.
James Dykstra and Gary Bu ikema attended Western Illinois University Homecoming festivities at Macomb Illinois last weekend. Jim's sister Sandra is a student at WIU. Mr and Mrs George Bissens and Mr and Mrs Harold Witt were Sunday visitors of Mr and Mrs Ray L Morelli in Pekin Illinois.
The Thomson Teen Club will open its first night on Thursday November 2 from 6 30 to 10 00 p m using the old high school gym as its meeting place. Hours for Friday and Saturday are 6 30 to 11 00 p m and Sunday from 12 30 to 5 00 p m Donations are sought to cover insurance costs and may be left at McKee Lumber K & K or with Mrs Bruce Graham at her home Any donation will be appreciated.
Mrs. Robert Plumley calls an urgent meeting for all Sunday School teachers and substitutes this Thursday evening October 26 at 7 30 in the church auditorium. Main topic is the need for additional staff members.
