Local Mardi Gras Festivities Draw Large Crowd

More than 500 attendees, about 450 in the main gym and 125 teens in the old gym, enjoyed costumes, prizes, a movie, and snacks despite rain. Winners included Deana Robinson, Jason Cox, Ray Grim, Wayne James, and Don and Lori Schoening with Modern Woodmen prizes and community group support.

The Carroll County Development Corporation asks locals to fill out a confidential questionnaire to gauge interest in locating a light steel fabrication plant near Mount Carroll Illinois. About thirty male employees would be hired, with the firm building its own plant and financing. The project would supplement existing plants with a high rate of female employment.

Indiana Driver Killed in Lanark Accident

James A. Lucas 33 of Indianapolis died when his car skidded broadside into a westbound vehicle driven by Harold Janssen 46 of Polo Illinois on Route 64 near Lanark A S curve. Janssen was hospitalized with facial lacerations. Coroner Hussey ruled Lucas dead at the scene. State Trooper Spearman and Carroll County deputies investigated.

Family returns from two week southern camping trip

Mr and Mrs Myles Haas and Nancy came home Wednesday after a two week journey through five southern states. They camped at Magnolia State Park Ocean Springs Mississippi near Keesler Air Force Base Biloxi where son James and Walter Holland are stationed. A visit to New Orleans was noted. Weather was pleasant and they enjoyed fishing and bringing home proof of their catches.

Hoff Solos At University's Airport

Air Force ROTC cadet Harlan F. Hoff of Thomson Illinois completed his first solo flight at University of Illinois Willard Airport. Hoff, a senior in General Agriculture and ROTC Colonel, will receive 30 hours ground instruction and 36 hours flight time, with potential for a private pilot license after FAA exams.
