Thomson Lions Club Hosts Lions Leaders Dinner

Deputy District Governor Richard Folk of Dixon and International Counselor Bernie Humphrey of Morrison attended the Thomson Lions Club dinner at York Baptist Church. The club approved purchasing two tables and 16 chairs for the new fire station at about 150 dollars and donated 25 dollars for the Halloween Party. They also pledged to assist with the parade and party and planned a Christmas decorations project with 350 dollars. One new member, Robert Purlee, joined the club.

Lewis Motors Suffers Basement Fire Loss in Thomson

A smoldering fire started in the basement of the Lewis Motor Co. in Thomson about 3:45 AM on Thursday. Firefighters extinguished the blaze, caused by a furnace spark, damaging basement beams but not the cars or wrecker in the garage. An unknown passerby alerted local residents and authorities.

Carroll County Science Workshop for Elementary Teachers

The first meeting of the Carroll County Science Workshop for elementary teachers will be held at Mt. Carroll High School on Monday October 29 at 7 p.m. The workshop for K-6 teachers is sponsored by the State Department of Public Instruction and taught by Donald Hobach. Materials and lab manuals will be distributed. Edward Bratteau will attend to introduce the program. A two hour session will occur weekly for nine weeks, with a meeting night set by participants. All area elementary science teachers are invited to enroll.

Community Halloween Parade and Party Planned in Thomson

Thomson residents are invited to a Halloween parade and party Tuesday Oct 30 sponsored by PTA Woman's club Lions club American Legion and Legion Auxiliary. The parade starts 7 PM from the school ballfield with lineup at 6:30 PM. Ballfield to Main Street to Route 80 to the school gym where costumes are judged by age group and prizes awarded.
