The Illinois in the Civil War traveling History mobile exhibit arrives in Thomson on November 12 and runs through November 13 1962. Admission is free and sponsored by the Illinois State Historical Society. The display uses photos posters letters maps newspapers weapons and equipment in 18 cases detailing Civil War phases from Fort Sumter to Lincoln’s funeral and the Boys in Blue. The collection includes a Sherman spyglass rifles swords bayonets powder pouches ammunition canteens hardtack uniforms flags drums pugil sticks cannonballs and more.

Billy Groharing of Thomson was taken to Savanna hospital after a hunting accident near Potter's Slough left a toe amputated. he was released Tuesday. About 250 area children attended a Thomson PTA Halloween party in the Thomson school gym with a parade led by the fire truck and school band. Prizes were awarded for costumes across age groups, with winners listed, and a reception of doughnuts and Dixie cups followed.
