Thomson F F A members met in a special session to organize volunteer chores at the Russell Carpenter farm near Argo Fay. With both Carpenters in hospital the group agreed to take turns milking 13 cows and tending morning and night chores.
Tara and Tonda Mattie staying with grandparents Lloyd and Mae Smith received a long distance call Sunday evening from CWO Vernon Mattie and Mrs. Mattie in East Boston Mass. The call was a farewell gift before the Matties depart for overseas duty and their Thomson move to West Main Street in a home bought from Ray Morelli.
Mr and Mrs Earl Bennett of Argo Fay celebrated their 59th wedding anniversary on Sunday October 14. Their daughter Mrs E Giles and her husband of Peoria visited the family, and son Wayland Bennett from Chadwick was also a Sunday guest.

WDLM manager Dean Sippel will speak at the Thomson Methodist church Laymen's Day service on Sunday October 21. He is Moody Institute graduate and hosts Hymns of Hope on KROS Clinton. music features a ladies trio. Rev Wilbur Nicholson and Donald Sippel invite the community to attend the morning service.

Mr and Mrs Ernest Rathje attended the funeral of Robert H Nicolaysen 52 in Clinton who died suddenly at home early Sunday. Nicolaysen had served as a Clinton post office mail carrier for 19 years. Services were held at St Pauls Lutheran Church at 3 PM with burial in Oakland Cemetery.

Plans announced for the Thomson community Halloween Party and Parade on Tuesday evening October 30. Five local groups sponsor the event including the Thomson PTA Women’s Club Lions Club American Legion and the Legion Auxiliary. Paraders meet at 6 30 PM at the school ballfield and march to Main Street Route 80 and back to the school gym for the party with prizes for multiple age groups and costumes.

Mr and Mrs Sterling McCormick of Thomson announce the engagement of their daughter Rose Mary to Charles K Cravatta son of Mr and Mrs Charles D Cravatta of Savanna. The wedding will take place on Christmas Day at the Savanna Methodist Church.

The York Community Young People gathered recently at the Theresa Eissens home for a wiener roast. The next meeting is scheduled for Sunday October 21 at 7 PM in the church basement recreation and meeting room.

At a after school meeting in the Thomson school cafeteria 20 girls were enrolled in a new Brownie Scout troop. There were 16 mothers present. The Brownies will meet every Monday at 3:45 in the cafeteria.
Mrs Edward Smaltz of Milwaukee Wisconsin visited over the weekend with her parents Mr and Mrs N D French.
Mrs Grace Hook of Fulton and Mrs Jennie Rose of Morrison visited Tuesday afternoon with Mr and Mrs Albert Hook. The encounter highlighted community ties and neighborly hospitality in the area.
Sick Lucile Stransky of Savanna was a patient at Mercy hospital Dubuque Iowa this week. N D French was dismissed from Mercy hospital Clinton after several days as a medical patient. Albert Lynch was taken by ambulance to Jane Lamb hospital Clinton last Saturday where he remains a medical patient. Dale Holesinger was dismissed from Savanna hospital after a week as a medical patient returning to Thomson high school. Mrs Russell Carpenter of Argo Fay entered Illinois Research hospital Chicago and remains a patient there. Mrs Anna Perry was taken to Linton nursing home Sterling where she remains a patient. Russell Carpenter of Argo is a patient at Rockford Memorial hospital.
Mr and Mrs Kenneth Barna and their sons from Marion Iowa visited relatives in Riverview over the weekend. Elmhurst’s Lee Gibson and daughter vacationed at a cottage. Mrs William O Leary was a surgical patient in Iowa City hospital early in the week.

Supper guests Monday evening at the Eldon Hickey home celebrated the birthday of their son Alan. Present were Mrs. Vada Carroll and Charlene Zenk. Ely Cochran and his son-in-law and daughter Mr and Mrs Robert Stage and daughter of Rock Island spent Saturday at Amana Iowa.
