Nipe declines seek re election as county clerk
Veteran county clerk William Nipe announced he will not run again in 1970 after 49 years in the office. He leaves open who will succeed him with the filing period from December 8 to December 15 and primary on March 17, 1970. He plans to assist the new clerk and hopes for travel if his wife’s health allows. Mrs. DeLoris Goodrow and Howard Gorman are already running for the post.

Thompson School Board Opens Regular Session

Varsity Band Rates First in Platteville Parade
Thomson’s smartly uniformed varsity band won Class D honors in the Homecoming parade at Wisconsin State University Platteville marking the first first place for the band there. Floyd Griffin says a trophy will be awarded to the school. buses carried the group, with Principal Gengenbach and Mrs Schoening driving. The band’s next appearance is Thursday leading the Halloween parade with the new banner on display.

Illinois State Scholars named from Carroll County seniors
The Illinois State Scholarship Commission named 29 Carroll County high school seniors as State Scholars for 1970-71 from 16,514 overall scholars. Annual Halloween Frolic Set for October 30 in Thomson
Thomson area children are invited to the annual Halloween Frolic in the school gym on Thursday October 30. Parade starts at 7 00 p m with gathering at 6 30 p m leading bands, floats and groups from the Thomson PTA Modern Woodmen of America Lions Club Legion and others. After parade costumes are judged in the gym, prizes awarded at the Witch Wagon game, then movies and a record dance follow for younger and older students respectively. Prizes include a Spudsie Fireball Disneyland game plush toy and see through umbrella donated by Modern Woodmen with arrangements by Mrs Diephuis and helped by local volunteers.

At 84 Accident Hospitalizes One Near Thomson
An accident four miles north of Thomson at 9:45 p m Saturday hospitalized Elmer Wurster 32 of Thomson and demolished the pickup he drove. Wurster lost control crossing the roadway and overturning. A southbound car driven by Gary Spencer escaped impact as state police investigated.
