Fish Rescue Nets Thousands From Backwaters
Illinois state game wardens and crews rescued twenty to twenty five thousand fish from backwaters along Carroll county. The operation led by Stephen Rigney and Thomas Hand targets crappies bullheads black bass channel catfish sunfish and bluegills. The Frances Shimer junior college presents its fall gymkhana and horse show at Colehour stables in Mt Corbell next Monday afternoon October 24. Carroll shares top honors with six other counties in the district competition for corn field trials.
Illinois northern counties top corn yields with 51 bushels
Carroll and Whiteside lead seven northern Illinois counties with an average of 51 bushels per acre for corn this fall, higher than the state average of 43. De Kalb Henry Putnam Stark and Stephenson join in the top tier while northwest Illinois records 48.7 and northeast 45.8. Total statewide production is about 361,678,000 bushels, below last year's 444,197,000 but above the 1927-36 average. Other counties report Blanks for ranges and include Bureau 48 Ogle 49 Jo Daviess 48 Rock Island 49 Boone 41 Cook 47 Lake 39 McHenry 42 and Peoria 49.

Mrs. J Kratz observes the 74th anniversary of her birth in Chadwick Illinois born October 17 1864 in Hesse Darmstadt Germany. She married John Kratz on March 14 1886 and moved to America settling on a farm in Elkhorn later relocating to Chadwick in 1919. Mr Kratz died recently and she is survived by three children Mrs Frank Pontiak Milledgeville Mrs Frank Zemke Chadwick and John Kratz Clinton Iowa.
