New Boston, New Hampshire, October 8. Babson outlines a Gravity project inspired by Sir Isaac Newton. Plans include a laboratory to test insulating gravity, record accidents linked to lunar cycles, and direct gravity energy use, aiming to reduce fuel use and electricity costs.
Annual meeting of the Carroll county Dairy Herd Improvement Association will be held tonight in Farm Bureau hall at Mt. Carroll. Members are urged to attend and support the program with committee reports, film displays on producing quality milk, and a short talk by Gdilk on dairy work.
Approximately 11 2898 voters registered in Carroll County precincts as of Oct 5 final day. county clerk W M Nipe notes additional registrations in past two months bring total to 11298 with Mt Carroll Precinct 1 leading at 1004 and Lima township lowest at 144. Chadwick Woman's club held its 44th annual birthday meeting at Hope L. A. B. church with a one o clock potluck lunch. New president Mrs. K. W. Senneff presided as reports on the county board meeting at Freeport and Girl Scout work were shared. Members voted to raise dues to 2 dollars, welcomed Mrs. Alfred Hartman, and heard letters from friends abroad.
A pediatric clinic for physically handicapped children will run October 21 from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the physical therapy department at St. Anthony’s Hospital, Rockford. The University of Illinois Division of Services for Crippled Children conducts the event with the Rockford Visiting Nurses Association and the Rockford Junior League assisting. The examining staff includes Dr. R J Mroz orthopedist and other physicians, with nursing and speech staff also on site.
Fred Werner of Milledgeville purchased the 324 acre Kick farm just south of the Carroll county line in Clyde township at auction held October 6. The sale price was 71 dollars per acre.
Orval Haag of Sterling spent the weekend in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Haag, sharing time and hospitality during a family gathering.
Several at length obituaries from Savanna and Lanark detail the deaths of Julius V. Dauphin 74 near Savanna Della Nicklas 80 in Savanna August Krugjohann 80 Lanark Elizabeth Krugjohann 75 and Lillian Smith 64 of Mt. Carroll Pocahontas and Lanark residents. The notices list birthplaces, survivors, funeral times and burial sites, with services held in local churches and funeral homes.
Carroll County Federation of Woman's Clubs holds its fall conference at the Savanna Methodist Church on October 19. The program includes an address on Tactics of Communism by Rev. E Cedric Pope and talks on federation work, music, reports, luncheon, and ceremonies led by local club leaders.
Deputies found a 1945 Hudson abandoned near Brookville containing most items stolen from the Arvaur Hoffman home south Chadwick. Neighbors reported seeing a similar car near the property at the time. Missing money fountain pens and a razor were among the items. no occupants located as of Monday afternoon.
Harry F Rick aged 56 of Morrison died suddenly in his sleep early last Thursday at the home of his son in law and daughter Mr and Mrs Laurence Hollifield. Funeral services were Sunday at a Morrison funeral home with burial in Hill cemetery. He was born September 16 1902 in Ustick township Whiteside county. He was the son of John and Christina Rick and was raised in the area where he farmed in Whiteside and Carroll counties.
An announced corn price support sets the Carroll County loan rate at 1.41 per bushel for 1948, calculated by adding seven cents to 1947. Loans apply to farm stored corn with harvest time access through June 30 1949 and maturity by Sept 1 1949 or on demand.
Charles Nye Jenks, 75, prominent Savanna businessman and former mayor, died Oct. 7 after a brief illness. He led Savanna as mayor from 1911 to 1941, served as a bank director, and was active in Mississippi Lodge A F and A M. Funeral services were held Oct. 9 at Fuller funeral home with Rev. H Foster Whitney officiating. He is survived by his widow Edith Hodges, a son Phil A. Jenks, two grandchildren, and a sister.
Chir Col Paul G Armstrong director of Selective Service for Illinois said Major General Hershey has ordered 882 men to be delivered in December 1948. He noted 4000 registrants must be examined to meet the quota with inductions paused after December 20 for the holiday season. Plans include topping up daily quotas to ensure enough men reach induction stations between now and December.
The county clerk issued licenses in the purest week listing pairs including Carl E K Johnson and Mrs Hil lar Artman of Andover, Walter Krulic and Geraldine Boatwright of Matherville, Le Mingle and Mt Carroll, William Koning of Forreston and Sadie Wubbena of Shannon, Enver Sous of Clinton and Alverda Tyler of Savanna.

Carroll County Tuberculosis association held its annual meeting last week in Mt Carroll. After no dinner in the Ackerman tea room, the business meeting took place in the courthouse. Dr. Runde of Peoria, who runs tuberculosis clinics in Carroll County, spoke. All officers were re elected for the coming year.
Mt Carroll county men receive notices to report for army induction exams in Rock Island after a Monday, Oct 18 meeting. Halloween Mardi Gras plans include a 7:00 p.m. parade from Third and Van Buren, prize contests for costumes and bicycles, and dances at multiple venues with varied music styles.

Dixon George B Fluehr president of Illinois Northern Utilities warns that peak demand could meet total generating capacity until late spring 1949 when a new unit comes online He cites wartime restrictions lifting and delayed capacity as reasons and says shortages may occur during four hour spikes prompting curtailment broadcasts to alert consumers.
Forty three Carroll county girls were chosen as county project honor members in 4-H club work for the year. Selection based on project record sheets covering club school community and home activities. Also noted visits as Mr and Mrs Russell Higley and family of Polo were entertained at the Higley sister’s home.
Miss Esther Schmaling attended the funeral services for Mrs Florence Bealer of Sterling. W S C presents a potted plant to Mrs Vena Severance who leaves for Mt Carroll after twelve years of membership. Mrs Mary K Wallov has a birthday. Floyd Carpenter and Mr and Mrs James Libberton plan winter residences in California and Florida respectively. Laura Daehler and Esther Schmaling visited Haeger Potteries in Dundee, marking its 75th anniversary and global product recognition. Nino and Harold Kenyon work on California fruit ranch. A Luck and wife hosted guests Sunday.
Grange of Chadwick earned first place in the state quartet singing competition at the state Grange convention in Springfield last week. Members of the top quartet are Mrs. Charles Gordon Jr Myre, Herold Stoner, Mrs. Marine Misiewicz and Mrs Wilma Schneider. Governor Dwight Green gave the principal address at a bank banquet Monday evening.
Mr and Mrs Oscar Geldmacher of Rochelle Mr and Mrs C R Curley of Mt Carroll and Mr and Mrs Harve Schreiner were guests of Mr and Mrs Alvin Prowant Sunday.
