Alvin J. Eissens of Rockwood has been installed as student pastor at Calvary Community Church Rockwood in a Reform church organization. He studied at Central College and Hope College Holland Michigan and did two years post graduate work at Western Theological Seminary. He survived bone cancer surgery six years ago and aims for a divinity degree. He and his wife Alice have two children.

Former Thomson Resident Dies In Vet Hospital
Philip Switzer 51 of Waukegan and a Thomson area native died October 11 in a veterans hospital after a lingering illness. Services will be at Hodgson’s funeral home in Rock Island at 3 p.m. Friday. He was born June 13, 1910 in Clinton Iowa and was educated at York Community High School and Cornell College. He served as a captain in the Army Engineers during World War I and later worked in highway engineering before ill health forced cessation. He married Helen Swingley July 13, 1945. Survivors include his wife a son Tom his mother Mrs Clara Switzer of Mt Carroll two brothers Walter and David and two sisters Mrs Orris Hull and Mrs Wallace Williams along with many other relatives. He was nephew of Otto Switzer Thomson and H A Francke Mt Carroll.
