IFS Plans for Nitrogen Plant in Midwest
Illinois Farm Supply announced a multi million dollar nitrogen plant to be built in southeastern Illinois or southwestern Indiana. The facility, estimated at about 20 million dollars, will be owned by a new corporation including Farm Bureau cooperatives from Illinois Indiana and Ohio and Central Farmers Fertilizer Company of Chicago. It will employ 200 to 250 people at full production and will produce anhydrous ammonia ammonium nitrate nitrogen solutions and possibly urea products. The plant location will depend on water gas electric and freight costs. The bulk will be marketed by Illinois Farm Supply Indiana Farm Bureau Cooperative Association and Farm Bureau Cooperative Association of Columbus Ohio and the Central Farmers firm. Illinois Farm Supply will fund its share from capital reserves with no stock sale anticipated. The venture aims to assure Illinois farmers a steady supply of nitrogen products and reduce net costs through production savings. Illinois Farm Supply Company is the statewide affiliate of the Illinois Agricultural Association and distributes farm supplies through its service companies serving 102 Illinois counties.

Mrs Grace Sweitzer of Lanark is installed as president of the Carroll County Council of the American Legion Auxiliary at a Lanark meeting attended by 55. Officers for 1961 62 include Mrs Floyd Robinson Chadwick vice president secretary Mrs George Peat Lanark treasurer Mrs Cecilia Zemke Mt Carroll historian Mrs Russell Sweitzer Savanna chaplain. Installation aided by Mrs Ray Westfall Savanna with color bearers Mrs Roswell Packard and Mrs Bernice Smith. Next meeting set for Oct 25 in Milledgeville. District director Mrs Larry Perrin Polo to visit.

Shimer College faculty and staff returned to Mt. Carroll from Detroit after attending the 60th General Convention of the Episcopal Church. The group represented the college and its new affiliation, with Mullin, Reuter, Bro, Keohane, McKenney, and Hough as delegates and exhibitors.
