Illinois Auditor Reports Increases in Pension and ADC Payments

State Auditor Arthur C. Lueder announced September pension payments in Illinois totaled 4,481,905, up from August, while aid to dependent children payments reached 1,622,390, up as well. In Carroll and Whiteside counties, pensions were 8,997,280 for recipients and ADC 1,290,46 for dependents in Carroll, with Whiteside logging 26,279,743 for recipients and ADC 5,583,212 for dependents.

Absentee Ballots May Be Secured

Eligible voters who expect to be absent from the county on election day may file applications with the county clerk for absentee ballots. Monday was the first day to receive such applications. The final day to request ballots by mail is Oct 31, but ballots may be secured in person through Saturday Nov 2.

Real estate taxes for 1945 payable in 1946 have been paid in full in six of Carroll county's fourteen townships, according to County Treasurer Frank L. Ross. Most townships show little unpaid real estate tax, while some personal property bills remain unpaid, often due to mov ed residents or negligible amounts not worth collection.

Illinois Expands The Pines State Park With 70 More Acres

The state acquires an additional 70 acres adjoining The Pines State Park in Ogle County. The wooded tract lies to the west, with pines cedars and oaks on hilly terrain. Price paid is 150 dollars per acre, expanding park acreage to 385 acres.

Van Buskirk to Exhibit at 1946 International Live Stock Exposition

Clarence Van Buskirk of Mt. Carroll submits first entry for the 1946 International Live Stock Exposition at Chicago Stock Yards November 30 to December 7. He will show purebred Hereford cattle in the International Amphitheatre, the venue used by the Army postwar. The expo offers about 1 million dollars in cash prizes, with entries due by November 1.

Auto Collision Breaks Arm of Savanna Passenger

Leonard Roser of Savanna, riding as a passenger with Earl Lahre, broke an arm in a Monday collision at the corner south of the Glengarry club. George Williams of Mt. Carroll drove the other car. Prowant Cows Bring Average Of 243 A Head

Thirty three head of dairy cows sold at Chadwick auction by Bill Prowant, averaging 243 per head. Top cow went for 275 with only one below 200. Good weather drew buyers from Freeport Port Byron and parts of Iowa. sale advertised in the Review.

Savanna Airport Proposal Before Chamber of Commerce

Charles N. Cudworth of Rock Island urged Savanna to establish a municipal airport two and a half miles south of Savanna on Route 80. He offered to buy planes and equipment and run a flight school while Savanna would purchase land, build hangars and lay runways. The aviation committee was assigned to study the plan.
