County Road Signs Going Up as Volunteers Seek Donations

Rural intersection signs are going up after months of effort by Lions Clubs and Granges with the County Board of Supervisors and Mt. Carroll JayCees. Volunteers are needed to erect signs across Mt. Carroll area routes while funds cover costs for 13.40 each, with several groups pledging support including Rock Creek Grange and local donors.

Charges Filed In Circuit Court For Two Youths

Two separate criminal cases filed in circuit court involve eight liquor related counts and six drug charges. Dean Derrickson, 21, of rural Fulton County faces marijuana narcotics and vehicular drug impairment counts, a hit and run, and improper auto registration. David Geronzin, 17, of rural Clinton faces eight liquor charges including underage drinking, transporting liquor with a broken seal, curfew, and license violations.

Village Board Boosts Christmas Fund In Regular Session

In a brief Thomson village meeting on Monday the board boosted the Christmas fund by 100 dollars, only action taken. Discussion focused on delinquent sewer and water accounts while treasurer reported balances of 3956.21 in general fund 3678.21 in waterworks and sewer 640.12 in motor tax fund and 498.07 in York Sanitary District with all trustees present.

Notables Address Conservationists At First County Meeting

The Ten County Conservation Commission held its inaugural meeting Sunday at Pelgen Green Acre Tree Farm near Oregon with about 75 attendees. Howard L. Kennedy and officials from Thomson and Springfield spoke on national recreation area plans, resource conservation, and outdoor education. Cyril Ballam was named president and Robert Weirick secretary as Senator Bertil Rosander introduced the program.

City youths and country cousins share 4-H ties as National 4-H Week October 5 11 highlights the program now serving youths from cities towns and farms. Illinois 4-H numbers show about one third in farming areas one third in cities and one third in small towns.

Carroll County Teachers Institute Friday

Carroll County public schools will close Friday October 10 so teachers may attend the Carroll County Institute. Milledgeville High School hosts a 9 a.m. program with an organ recital by Mrs. Jean Beacom and talks on guidance plus multiple breakout discussions led by district and area officials and educators.

TNT Club Sets Annual Bazaar and Bake Sale

At a York Community Church meeting the TNT Club voted to sponsor its annual bazaar and bake sale on October 18 starting at 10 a.m. Volunteers will serve lunch at noon featuring sandwiches baked beans homemade pies and coffee.

Frosch Family Plans Move to Kenai Alaska in October

Mr and Mrs Larry Joe Frosch and their son Jeff plan to depart around October 18 for Kenai Alaska to establish a home. Joe will take a job at a chemical plant in Kenai.

School Board Hears Brief Actions In Special Session

The Thomson school board met in special session with President Elmer Haas. They discussed trading a school bus after a visit to Moline Body, but rejected the proposal. The board accepted a Krahn Motors van for driver education and special education transport replacing a Krahn pickup. A Chevrolet car from Krahn Motors remains in use. Eymer Boonstra’s Fulton bid to install a new furnace at the school farm was accepted.

Platteville Hosts Pioneer Cheerleading Clinic At Wiscon si State

Thomson High School cheerleaders joined 79 schools from Illinois Wisconsin and Iowa at the Pioneer Cheerleading Clinic at Wisconsin State University Platteville on October 4 led by Mr Robert Shields of the National Cheerleaders Association. About 700 cheerleaders attended sessions on stunt technique school spirit sportsmanship and crowd psychology with performances and a group cheer session after lunch. Participants included Pam Kaufman Mary Dykstra Bonnie Atherton Nancy Marken Dawn Knuth Judy Gray Marcia Holland Barbara Schoening and Debbie Bush accompanied by advisors Mrs Gene Marken and Mrs Donald Schoening.

Christmas Concert Rehearsals Begin in Savanna

Savanna Community Chorus rehearsals are held Tuesdays at 7 30 p.m in the Lincoln school music room for the annual Christmas Concert. The program features Christmas music from many lands, Americas carols with instrumental accompaniment and dancers, selections from the Nutcracker Suite, and is open to all county residents with bass voices in special demand.
