Palisades Post No. 39 Amvets of World War II in Carroll county conducts a campaign to purchase polio pack apparatus for Carroll residents to use at home for Sister Kenney post polio treatment. This is not a donation request. cooperation will earn full value in national publication via the post. A representative with sheriff's office registration and a letter signed by W. H. Buswell, post commander, will visit soon.
Farm Bureau directors attended a district leaders meeting Tuesday morning at White Pines lodge. A county co-operatives officers and directors meeting is set for 7 30 p m October 9 in Farm Bureau hall Mt Carroll L V Colvis of the Chicago Producers Creamery will speak. A monthly Farm Bureau board meeting will be held at 7 30 p m October 11 at the Farm Bureau of Dawn.
Carroll county students gain a two day holiday as teachers attend the annual Carroll County teachers institute on October 16 at Mt. Carroll school with registrations at 9:30. Program features include Dr. H. D. Hinton of Notre Dame, Tom Kelly, Lanark quartet, and Dr. Cleo Dawson. An Oct. 17 session at Midway Theatre in Rockford will feature J. L. Buford John L Bracken and Clifton M. Utley.

The Sandridge school will present a program and social Thursday Oct 20 at o o'clock in the evening. Contributions of sandwiches pastries and five and ten cent novelties for the fish pond and pot of Gold will be appreciated. Libbie C. Rupple is the teacher. Monday evening visitors in the Charlees Sack home were Miss Mary Taylor Mrs Lola Taylor and Mrs Bess Humbert all of Chadwick.
Postal officials announce mailing window from October 15 to November 15 for overseas gifts and urge proper packing and labeling. National Letter Writing Week runs October 12 to 18. citizens encouraged to write friends and support the cause.
George Bissens narrowly escaped serious injury while operating a tractor in the Groharing farm barn. He dove under the tractor as overhead timbers cracked and hay mow floor collapsed, burying him briefly. The hay was cleared, no serious damage occurred, and carpenters began repairs.
Mr and Mrs George Rentsehler and children Mrs Roe Sheridan of Fulton Mr and Mrs Lawrence Weatherwax Mr and Mrs Thomas Hand and Rosalie attended the Holy Hour Devotion held Sunday at Davenport Stadium. Attendance numbered 10000 or more. Miss Evelyn Houzenga of Morrison spent the weekend with her parents Mr and Mrs Andy Houzenga. Mr and Mrs Charles Sack spent Sunday in Chadwick with Mr and Mrs Harry Spealman.
Officers of the Carroll County Tuberculosis Association were re elected for another year at the annual meeting held last week in Savanna. They are Lawrence E. Bruci president Harold Elliott first vice president Harold Mackenzie second vice president Mabel C. Greve secretary Clifford G. Wilcox treasurer. Executive committee members are E. K. Graham Lanark Howard Brett Chadwick and Jeanette Nichols Mt. Carroll. Plans were made for the annual Christmas seal sale. Miss Margaret Handlin county nurse reported tuberculin tests in schools totaling 280 persons and 648 x ray examinations including 350 county pupils and 289 Frances Shimer College students.
County Clerk W M Nipette issued marriage licenses to John T Atkins and Elizabeth Peck both of Savanna last week. Maynard Hartwick of Chadwick pleaded guilty to improper driving and failing to signal a turn before Justice Carroll on Saturday and was fined 10 dollars plus costs after a collision with E F Tryar at the Routes 64 and 78 intersection in Mt Carroll.

Cooperators must self report due to funding limits while dinner guests and visitors are noted in a separate social item.
A Carroll county grand jury charged six men in four indictments. Frank Gierens and Nicholas Ferencak face larceny and conspiracy counts tied to slot machines. Eustice and John Doe are named in a conspiracy to commit a felony involving assault and theft. David Monn and Otto Voeckel were indicted for operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated. Robert Moser and Frank Speciale face larceny charges for a Chicago vehicle theft. Judge Zick scheduled further court for Oct. 10.
The seventh Johnson reunion gathered 30 relatives at Esper Johnson’s Chadsek area home. Attendees included Ester Burger and Shirley of Sterling, Eugene Johnson with Stevie and Roger, Lyle Tempkins with Lyle and Camillia, William Johnson and Bernell Mekhen of Rock Falls, Geo Johnson with daughters, Leverny Stenub with Dorothy and Mary Ellen of Chadsek, and Edwin Grate. A picnic lunch, hot dogs, and a roast followed, oldest present Esper Johnson, youngest Rover. Plans were made to hold next year’s reunion at the same location.

Farm Adviser M P Joske warns of granary weevils infesting cats threshed and stored grain across the county. The small brown beetle heats grain as it feeds, rapidly increasing numbers in warm weather, damaging both feed and seed quality. He urges farmers to inspect stored grain and consider fumigation with commercial gases to exterminate the pest amid rising world food shortages.
A 140 acre farm at Md Schreiner in Fair Haven township sold Monday for 92 dollars per acre. George Vollbehr of Morrison, a WhiteSide county farmer, purchased the property. The sale was advertised in the Review.
Chadwick Woman's club begins its season with the annual "bothday" meeting this Thursday afternoon in Hope U. B. church parlors. The program will be preceded by a one o'clock luncheon.

Guests included families of Lehremer Unzicker Sollenberge Sack Lego Ditteworth and Hartman among others with multiple birthday and wedding happenings.
Lee Spencer, local Chrysler Plymouth dealer, received two shipments of new cars last week. Six Plymouths arrived Friday and six more on Saturday, leaving only two on the showroom floor by Monday morning as he expected them to clear by day’s end.

Wesley B. Simpson aged 45 of Savanna died at 6 25 pm Sunday in Savanna city hospital. Funeral rites were held Wednesday in a Savanna funeral home with Rev F E Pope officiating and burial in Savanna cemetery. Born March 10 1902 in Fayette county Iowa he was the son of William Simgp ear and married Bettina Warfield of Mt Carroll. Surviving are widow a sister in Ohio a brother James of Savanna. Charles W Kramer 64 of Savanna died at 9 48 am Oct 2 in Savanna hospital. Body moved to Lost Nation Iowa for funeral and burial Monday. Born in Lost Nation son of John and Caroline Kramer he is survived by widow a daughter Mrs Henry Orth of Savanna two sons Frank and Nam, six grandchildren
A two night book fair will be held in Mt Carroll on October 15 and 16 in the old Mt Carroll school gym. Hundreds of new and used books will be on display and for sale. Sponsored by the Mt Carroll Chapter of the Book Club.
Donald RB Coble a member of the University of Illinois football band will take part in the Tone Army game at Yankee Stadium New York City October 11 with a concert in Wohigis Plains New York October 10. Despite limited rehearsal time two thirds of the veteran band personnel and arts directors express confidence the group will be ready for its first postwar out of town trip. The band from the University Concert and First Regimental Band forms the football band which rehearses two evenings weekly and performs 25 numbers each fall including a symphonic piece at each game. Massed movements choreograph every drill under director Mark H Hindsley with drills on the unit field.
Mrs. Lucinda Gipe entertained a small group of friends Thursday afternoon on her birthday. Guests included Mrs Arthur Deet Mrs Mabel Etnyre Mrs Bess Hin bert Mia Annette Clements Mrs Erm Barnhart and Mrs Ada Rahn. The afternoon was social and refreshments were served.
