Why Spring Lake Area Closed To Hunters
A 1946 letter from Ray C. Steele, superintendent, explains the closing of an additional Spring Lake section south of Savannah to hunting. The decision, approved by the Illinois Conservation Department, keeps more water closed to shooting while preserving upper end access, aiming to concentrate bird numbers and extend hunting prospects elsewhere.
