Illinois Pension Act Too Strict in Residence Rules
Wilbur J. Cohen, attorney for the social security board, told reporters the old age pension act in Illinois is too strict. He said the 10 year Illinois residence requirement within 15 years is harsher than federal rules. The act would need to lower this to five years within nine to align with federal standards. He noted possible adjustments to cap monthly pensions at $81 if federal funds are used and the $81 limit would include the government’s $15 monthly contribution per recipient. Governor Horner plans to call a special legislative session to amend the act.
