Final figures from the Carroll county board of review report 1935 total assessed property value at 15,743,860, down 128,965 from 1934. Railroads and corporations will be added by the state tax commission. Personal property 2,262,800. land 9,932,345. town lots 3,548,715.

Charles Olmstead of Lanark was named a member of the Carroll County Emergency Relief Committee by the Illinois Emergency Raivel Commission.
The Mount Carroll emergency relief unit in Carroll County is closed this week due to reduced staff and reorganization. All business will be administered from the Savanna office. Superintendent Reiff and secretary Miss Mary Schaut were reassigned to Savanna.
Work on the Lock 18 project north of Fulton progresses with heavy dike and cofferdam construction. Piling, pumps, and dredging advance while new Otter Creek channel is diverted to complete the dike across the old stream. Diesel tractor efficiency noted. fall completion anticipated subject to weather.
A fire at the Hunter Lumber Co. in Savanna destroyed the lumber sheds and much contents early Monday morning. The blaze, discovered around 6:25 by Burlington engine crew, consumed roofing and storage areas. Loss pegged at 25 to 30 thousand dollars with insurance covering buildings and contents. Temporary office space set across the street as the company plans next steps.
A 2.5 mile gravel stretch near Brookville was finished Wednesday. The road, on the Carroll Ogle county line, was financed jointly by Carroll and Ogle counties.
The latest order raises CCC enrollees age to 17 through 28 years inclusive. Those who have served four months or longer may re enroll. The 13 month maximum enrollment is removed. Relief status for enrollees remains unchanged.
Members of the Skilled Drivers club and Carroll County Farm Bureau arrange interbay testing of brakes lights and other vital safety factors in Mt Carroll on October 12 and 14. Farm Bureau funds the equipment’s transport with goals of reducing accidents and property loss. Club members hold a second courthouse meeting in Mt Carroll discussing rules of the road motorists peestrain mechanical gear and related topics. A lively debate is anticipated on good motoring manners. Entertainment coordinators plan recreational activities to maintain interest.
About twenty five editors and others attended an editors meeting at Polo last Friday. The event featured a golf outing at the Counter Club as men played while women were entertained by Mrs. G. C. Terry, wife of Tri County Presse editor. Speakers included John Neif of Grand Detour and Charles Suhroz of Stockton Newsierald. Nell Nolf shared a life tale of starting as a tramp printer and moving into commercial arts. A chalk talk on the funny side of newspaper growth followed.
Frank Gingrich district 4-H leader met Wednesday evening at the Farm Bureau office with Carroll county boys 4-H club leaders to review club work from the past year. Stories and reports of outstanding members were scored by the University scorecard and honors awarded for exceptional club activity. Enrollment in 4-H work in Carroll county in 193% greatly exceeded prior years, with keen interest for next year. Present were W. W. Langdoe La Rank Rush Carroll Hubert Cate Thomson W. G. Turkeys from the Law turkey farm northwest of Mt. Carroll are being shipped to Loommarket and sold to large city eating houses. Proprie tors expect ample birds for local demand this winter and one gobbler weighed 19 pounds, a heavy weight for the season.
Porter's herd of seven Brown Swiss led Garrall County Dairy Herd Improvement in September with 790 pounds of milk and 20.8 pounds of fat per cow. Weidman's 19 Holsteins dropped to second at 861 pounds milk and 30.2 fat per cow, with two dry cows. Keim's nine Brown Swiss averaged 787 pounds milk and 28.5 fat per cow. Williamson and Stransdale No 1 tied for fourth at 27.4 fat per cow. Overall herd average 569 pounds milk and 22.7 fat for 197 cows, 32 dry. four unprofitable cows sold. seven separators tested, one losing over .05 percent.
William Traum, radio editor for View publications, displays over a hundred personally autographed portraits of famous radio stars in Hartmans Camera Shop window Freeport. The three year collection includes eight by ten photos by well known photographers with inscriptions from Bing Crosby Lawrence Tibbett and Jan Garber among others drawing public interest.
Freshman vocational agriculture students at Mt Carroll High School staged a weed display in the Farm Bureau office window in Mt Carroll. Farm Adviser Roske says the exhibit launches a county program to destroy harmful weeds, featuring species such as white cockle shoo fly wild mustard barnyard grass horseweed bull nettle parsnip crab grass pepper grass button weed and many others.
Seventeen Carroll county men are now engaged in barberry eradication work under a state expert. The crew plans to cover the entire county to eliminate the noxious weed, currently operating in the south port of Tork township.
Three youths aged 14 to 18 were arrested Sunday night in Savanna for breaking and entering a store room at the rear of a former Law's funeral parlor. Raymond Daan 16 Savanna Amos Kallenberger 18 Clinton Ia Ta,, and Ysesis Espinosa 14 Savanna were heard by Justice of the Peace R C Ward Monday. The justice ordered the November grand jury and set bonds at 1000 each. With no bonds furnished, the youths were sent to county jail to await the grand jury action.
Merritt Neuschwanger of Mt Carroll placed fifth with his Angus calf at the 4-H club baby beef show in Clinton on Saturday, the calf also being named grand champion at the local 4-H roundup. Paul Rath of Savanna took fourth in the Shorthorn division, with other Carroll County youths Harold Yochem, Junior Bott, Milledgeville, Harry Stengel of Lanark, and Edwin Strutz of Lanark also earning ribbons.
