Fred Guenzler of Carroll County marketed a two carload shipment of quality steers near Lanark at the Chicago Stock Yards. The herd averaged 1350 pounds and sold for 12.15 per cwt for Eastern shipment. Carroll county cattle topped at 12.75 per cwt with 22 prime Hereford steers from John Bogott of Milledgeville averaging 1113 pounds selling at the day’s top.

Two of eight local registrants reported for induction in Chicago and returned home that night. Charles Petty was named city marshal of Mount Carroll at a city council meeting Friday night. The council also passed an ordinance appointing Melvin Finer as special city attorney to replace outgoing Carlos Johnston, who resigned September 1 to join the deputy sheriff office. Milledgeville appears set to gain a bank after years without one as stock is subscribed and the state auditor notified. Albert R. Anderson of Paxton Ill will be cashier and a stockholder, with at least 15 shares.
