Taxpayers' Association Reorganizes in Carroll County

Officers and directors were elected Friday night at the courthouse in Mt. Carroll. John K. Morris of Rock Island township leads the slate as president with W. S. Todd Milledgeville as first vice president and Paul Palmer Savanna as second vice president. A fourteen township board of directors was chosen and membership cards were distributed to promote a broad campaign.

Women’s Clubs Plan Season Across Illinois District

The 13th district of the Illinois Federation of Women’s Clubs met in Stockton to outline fall and winter projects aligned with the national nine teen defense program. Elver Graham Dies in Fleming at 58

Elver Graham 58 native of Mt. Carroll died Thursday afternoon Sept 18 in Fleming Colorado where he had lived 27 years. Roy and Ward Fritz of Mt Carroll brothers in law attended the Fleming funeral. He is survived by his widow Dessie Fritz a daughter Mrs. C A Warren of Fleming and a brother Marion of Sterling Colorado.

Judgment for $90 Against Farmer Brandenburg

A judgment in favor of the Columbia Hog and Cattle Powder Co. of Kansas City for $90 was returned against John Brandenburg who lives east of Chadwick in Chadwick justice court. Brandenburg must also pay court costs after a jury trial conducted before Justice George Coden.

New Chapel at Savanna Ordnance Depot Dedicated

Dedication services for a new chapel at the Savanna Ordnance Depot were held Sunday afternoon with several Savanna pastors taking part. Capt. Robert L. Logan spoke as principal speaker. The 350 seat frame chapel cost $27,000, built by Hagstrom Construction, designed for Protestant Catholic or Jewish services, with an electric organ and blower heating.

Sheriff Attends FBI Conference in Rockford

Sheriff Ray Westfall joined regional law enforcement officials at an FBI conference in Rockford on Tuesday. The talks covered internal security, espionage and sabotage as part of Director J. Edgar Hoover's nationwide mobilization for national defense. A. H. Johnson oversaw the proceedings.

Erdmi er Again to Head AAA in Carrell County

J. W. Erdmi er of Shannon was reelected chairman of the Carrell County agricultural conservation committee at a delegate convention. Herman Dachler of Chadwick was chosen vice chairman with Ed L. Dauphin of Savannah as third member. Additional alternates and community committeemen for 1942 were named across multiple townships to administer the farm program and coordinate the food for freedom effort.

County Officials Attend Northern Illinois Meeting in St Charles

Charles Kingery, chairman of the Carroll county board of supervisors, and Walter Watson, county clerk, attended a meeting of county officials from northern Illinois at St. Charles last Wednesday. The session discussed installing permanent registration equipment required by a new state law and noted the need for significant additional equipment.

Aged Home to Move to Chadwick with New Opening

The home for the aged run by Mr and Mrs Wilbur Hall will relocate to Chadwick on October 1 and open October 15 to accept residents. It will occupy a nine room modern house owned by Mrs Edna Shilling, two blocks east of Main Street. Mr and Mrs Don Asay and family were Sunday dinner guests of Mr and Mrs Lake Flickinger at Lanark.

Father and sons saved from blaze at Mt Carroll home

Oliver Davis and his two young sons were rescued from a bedroom after a kitchen fire blocked the only exit. Neighbors alerted firefighters. Davis and the children were carried to safety through a window. The elder boy was treated at a Freeport hospital. Davis suffered head and shoulder burns and smoke inhalation.

Carroll County to discuss county school survey panel

School board members from Carroll county will meet tomorrow evening in Mt. Carroll to consider forming a county school survey committee under a new state law. Presiding will be L FE Brudi. Local boards in Whiteside and Winnebago counties already rejected the proposal.

Three Hurt in Auto Crash Near Savanna Viaduct

Three persons suffered minor injuries Sunday at 5:30 p m when two cars collided at the north approach of the Milwaukee railroad viaduct in Savanna. Mrs Charlotte Osburn her daughter Carol and Mary Aice Wheeler of Thomson received cuts and bruises and were treated at Savanna hospital. All were in a car driven by Harris Osburn. the other car was driven by Arlan Rasmussen of Ashton. Front ends of both cars were badly damaged.

Milledgeville Obituaries Highlight Local Deaths and Memorials

Funeral services were held for Fanny Cheeseman 68 at South Elkhorn church with burial in South Elkhorn cemetery. Also named were deaths of Savanna engineer Leonard Johnson 71 and Milledgeville figures August Frederick 68 and Mary Bird McKay 56, detailing survivors and service notes.

Carroll 4-H Youths Excel at Clinton Show

Carroll county 4-H youths earned ten blue ribbons eleven red ribbons and eight white ribbons at the Quad County 4-H club baby beer show in Clinton though none captured grand or reserve champion. Richard Zuck Lanark won a Shorthorn calf to reach the grand championship final, after prior titles at Carroll 4-H roundup and Freeport sectional fair. Judges praised the top six beeves as the year's best, led by two Town rivals Glenn Mommsen Miles and Jack Wilkinson DeWitt winning the grand and reserve championships with Angus and Hereford stock respectively.

Isaiah White, Carroll Native, Dies in Houston

Isaiah White 79 a Carroll county native died Saturday in Houston Texas where he had lived for over a year. His body returned to Mt Carroll for funeral services held Wednesday at Frank's funeral home and burial in Oak Hill cemetery. He was born in the Zion community northeast of Savanna and long lived in Savanna. Surviving are a daughter Mrs Roy Adams and grandson Bernard Adams of Houston plus two sisters Mrs Hattie Williamson and Mrs Millie Ross both of Mt Carroll.
