61-Cent Corn Loan Rate Announced By USDA
The U S department of agriculture announced a 61 cent per bushel loan rate for 1940 corn in the commercial area of 599 counties across 12 states. Outside this area the rate is 46 cents for yellow or white corn and 44 cents for mixed grain. Loans run 10 months to 3 years with 3 percent interest and require storage in sealed facilities until repayment or surrender of title.

Dr William Flaherty 72 Carroll County native and former chiropractor died at 1 30 Friday morning in a Rockford hospital after a long illness. Funeral rites were held Sunday at Center Hill L B Church. He lived with Lewis Harrison in Sterling after wife’s death. Born March 24 1868 on a Mt Carroll area farm. Several cousins survive.

Two Injured in Route 78 Snow Accidents
A heavy snowstorm left two motorists injured on Route 78 south of Daggetts. An Electro-Jux salesman from Fulton suffered a broken collar bone and back injuries after hitting a bridge abutment near Ernest Miller farm, and Leona Schmidt of Mt. Carroll was cut and bruised when her Nash skidded and overturned near M. F. Van Buer’s farm.

Corn Loan Eligibility Expanded for Carroll County Farmers
The U S Department of Agriculture announced 65 percent of Carroll County 1940 corn crop will qualify for the 61 cent per bushel loan from the Commodity Credit Corporation. The program extends loans to September 30 1941 and increases the loan term to three years. Loans require storage assurances and no early resealing. terms include 11 percent interest split with local agencies.

Two Hurt As Car Over Turns Near Savanna
Two persons suffered minor injuries when a car rolled over near Savanna on Route 80 at Miller curve last Wednesday night. Joe M. Erschen of Dubuque owned the car. Mrs. George Bailey, a hitchhiker en route to Minnesota, was treated at Savanna hospital and returned home in Indiana.
