Schools claim $28,634 state aid for year
Carroll county elementary and high schools filed claims for 22,634 in state distributive fund aid for the year ended June 30 1940. Elementary schools receive 11 per pupil while some districts get special aid. Total statewide elementary and high school claims total 12,277,121 about 250000 less than last year.

Savanna Man Admits Involvement in Multiple Burglaries
Luman Preston 30 of Savanna admits complicity in three burglaries and involvement in two more in Savanna and Mt Carroll. He confessed to Sheriff Ray Westfall that he burglarized the Garris service station in Mt Carroll two weeks ago and attempted to enter another service station in Savanna. He also admitted taking money from a pay telephone in the Burlington depot at Savanna and taking a radio from Northwestern Illinois Utility building in Savanna on Oct. 18. Preston was arrested, arraigned, and bound over to the grand jury with $1000 bond. He denied ties to other recent Savanna burglaries.
