Nine directors were elected at the Jo-Carroll Electric Co-operative second annual stockholders meeting in Elizabeth. Plans to muster 1125 Illinois draftees next month were postponed to January to allow more men to spend Christmas at home. Induction of 828 Illinoisans begins this week under the November call, with two from this county. The state's quota through July 1 is 62228. no January number yet. Coroner's jury returns verdict of death by own action for John E. Durham 45 first sergeant of the 52nd ordnance company Savanna ordnance depot. Durham fired a .45 bullet at 6 30 am in the commander's headquarters. body found after a bell wake routine. Survived by widow Dorothy Van Buer a daughter Charlene and sister Mrs Marie Gilbert.

Man Dies of Exposure After River Capsize Near Savanna
Hugh Bailey 29 of Savanna found dead on Santa Fe island in the Mississippi river four miles north of Savanna. An inquest ruled exposure caused his death after his boat capsized shortly after leaving a hunting camp Wednesday. Survived by widow Virginia and two sons Richard Lee and David John, plus mother, sisters, and three brothers. Funeral held at Fuller funeral home with Savanna Cemetery burial.

Chief Justice Norman L. Jones Dies at 70
Norman L. Jones chief justice of the Illinois Supreme Court died Friday in a Jacksonville hospital after months of treatment. A Democratic leader since 21, he served as a circuit judge for 17 years before his 1931 election to the Supreme Court and was elevated to chief justice last June. He had long resided in Carrollton.

Four youths indicted by grand jury in Mt. Carroll larceny case
Three Negro enrollees at the Mt. Carroll CCC camp, Thomas Young Robert Ross and Victor Walker, were bound over to the grand jury on a larceny charge. They are accused of stealing coupon books used to buy from the camp canteen. Unable to furnish bond of $500 each, Justice of Peace Frank Schrop pel ordered them held in the county jail.

Indictments Return in Carroll County Case Load
A Carroll county grand jury returned three indictments on Monday with two names withheld. One indictment charges Victor Walker a CCC camp enrollee with larceny for stealing coupon books from the camp canteen. Others arrested with Walker face pending cases. Separate indictments name James Frey charged with driving while intoxicated and reckless driving and Darold Cook with LaVerne Landorff charged in an August attempted burglary in Savanna. The grand jury was excused by Circuit Judge Leon A. Zinck pending recall.

Start Fencing Ends Of Dam 13
Erection of a fence at the west ends of Dam 18 in the Mississippi River south of Thomson was started Friday by a Rock Island U S army engineer crew. Areas at both ends of the dam are to be fenced for protection against possible sabotage efforts per instructions issued weeks ago by Col. C P Gross district engineer.

Rivers Authority Sets Winter Pool Levels in Mississippi Reach
Leut. Col. Harry W. Hill issued an order setting winter pool levels along the Mississippi west of Thomson. Pool 13 to stay about 13.50 feet, Pool 14 to be drained, Pool 12 held near eight‑tenths foot below normal, Pool 15 at normal, and pools south of 15 drained. A minimum nine‑foot depth will be maintained for active long‑haul traffic with gradual lowering through the season.
