Carroll county grand jury returns two indictments against Mt Carroll youths Lyle Keckler 17 and Verne Anderson 16 for auto larceny burglary. They were arrested in Reno Nevada after driving away a stolen Moltman Smith car and are also charged with a July 28 Mt Carroll tavern burglary. They are free on $2500 bond each. Jurors heard testimony on larceny of city funds from Savanna involving Lorene Belk 19 but did not indict her.
A divorce decree given Monday in Carroll County Circuit Court grants Joyce E. Beaston Savanna a divorce from Harold R. Beaston. A marriage license was issued Monday by the county clerk to Carl J. Anderson Thomson and Patricia A. Sterbenz Savanna, the only license in the past week. Real estate transfers include Wade F. Tripp to Raymond W. Van Buskirk and William Kenneth Brown to Carl F. Engaldo in Savanna and Oakvale.
Pvt Albert D Hendrick 18 son of Mr and Mrs James A Hendrick Route 2 Savanna Illinois is receiving advanced training with the Army Transportation Training Command at Fort Eustis Virginia under the Reserve Forces Act program. The course in light vehicle driving ends in March. He is a 1960 Savanna High School graduate.
Obituaries record Edna Orr 87 of Mt Carroll died in her home after long illness. Funeral at Frank Funeral Home with burial in Oak Hill. Also noted are Robert L Colehour 62 of Mt Carroll died of a heart attack at Tautz lumber mill. Frank Diehl 72 found dead with throat wound near Lanark. Mrs Marvin Culp 50 of Savanna passed after heart surgery in Rochester Minnesota. Surviving family details listed for each obituary.
Lanark resident Russell Lamoreux was chosen as a director of the Illinois Agricultural Association at the annual convention. Eight other directors were elected from across Illinois with William J. Kuhfuss of Mackinaw named to a third term as president and Edwin Gumm of Galesburg re elected vice president. The gathering approved resolutions endorsing a state income tax a soil bank program standard time nationwide time zone protections a world food bank and no expansion of federal milk marketing areas without producer approval.

Monthly gathering of Black Oak Grange took place in the hall on Monday night. Mrs. Charles Gordon led with readings and skits, a Thanksgiving program followed by a marching game and refreshments. A chili and chicken biscuit supper is planned for Nov 30 from 5:30 to 8 p m with public invitation.

Carroll Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution met in the home of Mrs. Fred Colehour with Mrs. Eugene McAdams and Miss Zella Corbett assisting. Officers and members discussed Farm Aid criticism of foreign aid, communism threats, and tactics, with plans for the December meeting featuring Mr. Paul Sammon speaking on the Illinois School Code and Christmas music.
Paul Unzicker, Sandra and Kev in of Rockford were overnight guests Friday in the home of Mr. and Mrs. W. J. Schreiner. They came to attend the senior class play. Bertha Strauch returned to the home of her sister, Mrs. F. W. Hughes, last week after a weeks visit with her brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Strauch in Champaign.
Demonstration on Thursday evening December 1 at 7 30 p m at Farm Bureau Hall shows various Christmas tree types in the area and compares high and low quality examples. Donald Mackay president of Carroll County Christmas Tree Growers Association outlines the event with W F Bulkley University of Illinois extension forester in attendance. Region One Illinois Heart Association dinner meeting at Lincoln Manor Dixon on Nov 14 drew 23 attendees including Glen Reynolds and Rita Dicke. Dr Thomas Haymond led the business with updates on external heart stimulation research and a briefing by Dixon Emergency Squad on cardiac arrest.
Lloyd Handel, an International Harvester dealer in Chadwick, was elected president at a Freeport meeting of Zone 1 of the Illinois Retail Farm Equipment Association. Other officers named were Vice President LaMonte Clikeman of Rockford, Secretary Elmer Alexander of Rockford, and Treasurer Jim Naylor of Dixon. Zone 1 covers Carroll Whiteside Lee Ogle Winnebago Stephenson and Jo Daviess counties.
Freeport Garden Club Unit 1 will stage a Holiday Show titled A Christmas Chandelier at the Veterans Memorial Home in Freeport from December 2 at 2 p.m. through December 4 until 7 p.m. The Junior Garden Club will present its own show in a separate room.
