Indict Two Men for Larceny in Savanna

A Carroll county grand jury returned a true bill naming Calvin Palfrey and Charles Palfrey of Savanna on larceny charges for taking items including a radio thermos jug and a lunch sack from Floyd Mowry’s car near Savanna about two weeks earlier. Both men were held in jail in lieu of $1,500 bonds.

Mrs. Carl H. Kness and Mrs. Harry Carbaugh hosted a dessert-bridge for friends at the Kness home last Wednesday afternoon. High score prize went to Mrs. L. A. Polo Hunter Fined Over Hen Pheasants Shooting Case

Harry Wubben of Polo paid 150 and 25 in Mt Carroll after pleading guilty to shooting three hen pheasants and having a gun set up in a car. Frank Hutchinson of Milledgeville also paid 25 for a similar gun in car charge. Both arrests followed by Game Warden Kenneth Flickinger of Lanark.

Trucker reports deer strike north of Savanna on Highway 80

A Morrison truck driver said his rig struck a large buck on Highway 80 just north of the Mississippi Palisades park entrance Friday. He left the scene, returned to find the deer gone, and said the front end of the truck was so damaged it could not be driven.

Death of Eva Randecker 66 in Savanna Hospital

Miss Eva Randecker 66 died at 1 17 p m Wednesday November 13 in Savanna city hospital after a ten day illness. She lived with sister Mrs Charles Wurster north of Savanna for ten years. Funeral services were held in Stockton with burial there. Born June 23 1880 at Massbach she was a daughter of Martin and Louisa Randecker. Surviving are brother Martin of Massbach and four sisters Mrs Caroline Wurster Miss Louisa Randecker Mrs Ben Albrecht and Mrs Charles Wurster.

Death of Lena Haring at 85 in Savanna

Lena Haring nee Beck died at 2 30 p m November 14 at the home of her son in law and daughter Mr and Mrs Ray Buckwalter Savanna after a two week illness. Born March 26 1861 in Derrida township Daviess county she married Charles Haring in 1892 he died in 1908. Survived by son Fred Haring two daughters Mrs Buckwalter and Mrs Glen Kane one brother Charles Beck and one sister Mrs Mary Diehl all of Savanna.

Kier Mark Silver Wedding Anniversary Observed In Morrison

Mr and Mrs Paul Kier of Morrison celebrated their silver wedding anniversary with an open house on Tuesday Nov 19 to suit a water event. The couple wed Nov 20 1921 at St Pauls Lutheran church west of Chadwick with Rev Hugo Braun officiating. They lived in Clinton and Chicago before moving to Morrison in 1930. Mr Kier a World War I and II veteran and interior decorator partner with E E Ridley. They belong to the Morrison American Legion and Legion Auxiliary. Mrs Kier attends Bethesda Lutheran church. They have a daughter Jacqueline Bealer of Fenton and granddaughter Susan Dee. Mrs Kier is sister to Mrs Curtis Naniga and Mr Kier brother to Mrs George Daehler of Chadwick.

Two Men Plead Guilty in Lanark Incident

S J Doyce of Rockford and Chas Whitmer of Lanark pleaded guilty to resisting an officer on Saturday. Justice Frank Schroeppel fined them $75 and costs. unable to pay, they were jailed. The men were involved in a fight with Lanark policeman Charles Diehl after arrests by Sheriff Eber Shepherd on Thursday and Friday night.

Savanna Man Elected Carroll County Sheriff Starts Work

Henry Truninger, newly elected sheriff of Carroll county from Savanna, works this week in the sheriff's office with Sheriff Eber Shepherd. He will take office December 3. The county jail holds 12 prisoners, with beds scarce and feeding them on a dollar a day is the bigger challenge.

Obituary Nettie Kramer of Lanark Ill dies at 52

Nettie Kramer died October 19 1946 near Lanark following asthma and heart complications. She was born September 6 1894 in Chadwick Illinois, married William Kramer in 1911, and lived on farms near Chadwick and Lanark. Survived by husband 11 children 16 grandchildren two siblings and her parents. Funeral held October 21 at Frank funeral home Lanark with burial in Lanark cemetery.

Fair Haven Center Social Draws Big Crowd and Proceeds

A large audience attended the Fair Haven Center social held Thursday at the school. Charles Guinther sold cakes pies and other pastries at auction while Mrs. Smith and her pupils presented a fine program. Food and drinks were served and a goose drawing won by Alvin Hook. Proceeds totaled $50.

The Baptist Sunday school social was held November 14 at the church basement with hosts the Wilt and Carroll families. The program included music, a prayer by Rev.
