Storm Wrings Fear as Hunters Stranded on River
Three Iowa hunters from Savanna rode out a fierce storm while on a floating river cabin west of Thomson. High waves trapped them until Tuesday night when they reached the Illinois shore. Harold Mackenzie and companions were also marooned on an island near Sand Slough but survived. Other river hunters faced fatal losses along the Mississippi during the storm.

Swine Bring High Prices From Chadwick Packers
Best price paid for hogs last Thursday by Chicago packers, six dollars and thirty five cents, went to Gibson and Ven Huizen of near Chadwick. They produce over 200 pound hogs at five months. The string sold averaged 222 pounds at six months. Their last shipment was 44 hogs averaging 203 pounds at five months.

Fugitives From Dixon Hospital Nabbed in Savanna
Three runaways from Dixon State hospital were captured in Savanna on Sunday evening while attempting to break into the oil station behind Chestnut Park. They admitted stealing a car in Princeton and breaking several station windows. Names are Patrick Sullivan 16 Donald Ross 15 and Edward Bremer 17. They escaped the Dixon institution about 5 30 p m Sunday.

Diffenderfer Tops Market For Tuesday
Tom Diffenderfer, Carroll county stockman, led the Tuesday cattle trade at Chicago Stock Yards with a carload of 20 Hereford steers from his Lanark farm. They averaged 1267 pounds and sold as a unit at 14.75 per cwt, five cents under the year to date high.

Mount Carroll's new postoffice building officially opened for business after staff moved records and equipment over the weekend. Postmaster K P Wilkerson announced an open house Friday through Sunday for the public to inspect the quarters. The facility on Clay and Rapp streets includes modern lobby, lock boxes, parcel post windows, money orders, postal savings, a large vault, and separate work areas for male and female staff. The Mt Carroll staff currently includes Postmaster Wilkerson, Assistant Postmaster Sisler, and clerks Elliott, Ivey, and McGrath.
