Mrs. Edna Kuhse of Mt Carroll was injured when her car was sideswiped and toppled Saturday morning on Route 78. A later theft connected to two Wisconsin boys, Edward Day and Rudy Gal, who had escaped a state youth facility, tied the incident to multiple car thefts across Illinois and Wisconsin.

Carroll county's two railroads the C B Q and C M St P P report substantial 1942 scrap iron collections. Burlington railroad shows 4 525 505 pounds relayed since January with 1 051 823 pounds sold to dealers and 3 273 980 pounds to a reclamation mill. Milwaukee Road mill reports 14 512 tons sold January to October 15 with a peak month of 4 325 tons in September. Northwestern Illinois Utilities adds 22 740 pounds cast iron 28 675 pounds cast steel 538 pounds brass 5 100 pounds lead cable 1 180 pounds copper and 4 000 pounds miscellaneous scrap.

Truck Mileage Rationing Set Back to Dec 1
The office of defense transportation postponed the mileage rationing for commercial vehicles from November 15 to December 1. The delay allows truck operators to continue service as delays in processing certificates of war necessity would have forced suspensions. Lanark Man Killed In Lanark Hiawatha Crash
Andrew Haas fifty six of Lanark died instantly when his car collided with the Milwaukee Hiawatha streamliner at the main street crossing in Lanark. A coroner jury ruled accidental death. Haas left a widow Agnes Clay and a daughter with relatives in Rockford and Lanark. Funeral services were held at the Frank funeral home.

Accidents Fatal to J Shaner in Lanark Area
John A. Shaner 62 a Lanark breeder and express driver died at St Francis hospital Freeport from injuries after his light truck collided with a highway couvert near the state routes 26 and 72 junction four miles east of Shannon. A coroner’s jury ruled death from shock and hemorrhages due to broken ribs and other injuries. Shaner long served as town clerk and poultry judge with deep Midwest ties. Funeral plans were under Frank funeral home.

Cream and gheen fiber license plates will be issued to Illinois passenger automobiles in 1943 by the state automobile division. The new tags are thicker than the steel plates formerly used. About 153000 steel plates will be used on trucks tractors motorcycles trailers and by dealers. Motorists may keep 1942 numbers by filing before December 1. Application blanks for 1943 plates will be distributed this week.
