Kent Feed Dance Sets Attendance Record at Armar Ballroom

Date Set for Judicial Convention for Illinois Supreme Court Nomination

Ford dealer meets in Kankakee on farm machinery expansion

M. H. Schroeder of Schroeder Implement Sales heard Ford Motor Company plans at a Kan kakee meeting under MacCarthy, Ford tractor and farm equipment distributor for the area. The session covered a consolidated farm machinery research center in Birmingham Michigan, upgrades at the Highland Park Ford Tractor plant, and broader expansion. Henry Ford II and Ernest R Breech spoke via film messages noting top management focus on tractors and farm gear as part of Ford's ongoing growth. A premiere of the film Food Fiber and Ford showcased tractor development since 1908.

Preliminary figures from Col Nelson Leclair Jr show October 1954 cargo topped previous monthly totals with 980 840 tons moved through the Rock Island District. Petroleum products led at 879 600 tons followed by coal 313 450 tons and grain 120 352 tons.

The Salem Merry Circle club held a potluck supper at the Community House in Mt Carroll with about 40 attendees including present and former members and their families. After the meal Miss Bette Lou Bowles and Mrs Myrnice Legel sang, and Mrs Fred Seifert spoke about Japan with colored slides. J. H. Shirk Marks 90th Birthday in Milledgeville

Milledgeville observes the 90th birthday of J. H. Shirk born November 17 1864 in Shannon. A former teacher and undertaker he ran a Milledgeville business until 1919 and later became a church and civic leader. He housed the county first automobile hearse and served as president of the Illinois Funeral Directors and Embalmers Association in 1931. He has two sons Cecil and Loren and three grandchildren.

Changes in Blood Donor Requirements Across Peoria Region

The Peoria Red Cross outlines updated donor rules effective immediately. Malaria donors may have had no attacks or anti-malarials in six months, jaundice history allowed with no attack in two years, and jaundice contact disqualifications apply for six months. Flight crews and armed forces with upcoming duties within 14 days are barred. Jaundice donations now go to fractionation only, producing gamma globulin and other derivatives, not whole blood.

Chicago Stock Show plans new exhibits and additions

The Chicago Stock Show announces a new 4 1 2 acre addition to the International Amphitheatre at the Chicago Stock Yards. A Sire-Progeny display by Texas Tech College, Texas A M College, and the U S Department of Agriculture will show gain variations in beef calves. Mr and Mrs McKinley Pickens returned from Waynesville Missouri after two weeks helping care for their new granddaughter Betty Jean Newendyke born October 23 at Fort Leonard Wood hospital to Pvt and Mrs Harold Newendyke. Betty Jean’s mother is the former Coretta Pickens. The couple left Fair Haven October 27 and also visited the Lake of the Ozarks enjoying the scenery.

Court orders Savanna to grant Mid-Continent service station

In circuit court Judge Leon A. Zick issued a writ of mandamus forcing Savanna to allow Mid-Continent Petroleum to build a service station in the business district. The company and five property owners had sought the writ after four city council refusals. Mid-Continent bought the site Sept. 9, 1953, contingent on approval. Hearings began last Monday and continued through the week. CROP drive set for Mount Carroll area with a $2600 goal to aid overseas families through Church World Service. program includes grain or cash contributions and support for refugees in Asia and Europe.

4-H Achievement Awards Held in Mt Carroll Farm Bureau Hall

The Carroll county 4-H achievement program was held Saturday night in the Farm Bureau hall Mt Carroll with Allen Haag Chadwick as master of ceremonies. Tom Smythe ITAA spoke. entertainment by Tip Top Trooper and Shannon Square Dancers. Awards were presented by Carl Hancel for ag clubs and Mrs Robert McLean for home ec clubs. A total of 208 4-H members completed projects with 85.2 percent success. 247 home economics enrollees achieved 4.3 percent completion. A full awards list will appear next week.

Six Indictments Returned by Carroll County Grand Jury

Carroll county grand jury returned six indictments on opening day of the November circuit term. Forest Tavernier and Herman McCarter face narcotic fraud charges. both are free on $1,000 bonds. William C. Mullen is charged with burglary and larceny for taking $175 from neighbor Charles Bissens. L. R. Hemminger C. W. Greer William Hoover and Samuel Turnbaugh Jr. face counts in an attempted jailbreak while jailed for prior offenses. All four inmates are in state penitentiary.

The Franklin Corners Community Sewing Circle met Friday November 12 at Mrs. Jay Isenhart’s home in Malvern with 17 members and 4 visitors. Hymns opened the meeting and devotions included Psalm 1. Urbana-Champaign Illinois prepares for November 13 Homecoming as Lane L. Frank Chadwick joins the world famous Illinois Football Band. He plays trombone and has rehearsed for Memorial Stadium performances and the Illinois Minnesota game. The band stages about 50 formations per season and prioritizes music over whistles or pistol shots.
